Title: Tick Tock Tick Tock
Post by: WebCrush on January 15, 2004, 05:05:09 PM
Its like less than 6 weeks till Daytona.

Anyone else freaking out, running around like a chicken without a head trying to figure out what needs to get done and pawning their mother's jewelery to make it happen?

Or is it just me? :D  Right now I have two bike dissassembled and slowly making progress but it always feels like I never have enough time.

Still have to renew the F/USA and AMA licenses too!

Oi vey!

Web crush, you are going about this all wrong. :o

Chill.  8)

Wait a week, wait another. 8)

Think about it the following week, but chill none the less. 8)

Then, start to get concerned.  :(

The last 3 days before you leave... PANIC!   :o :o :o Assemble everything while hopped up on mocha lattes and no doz, losing as much sleep possible.

Hope this helps. ;) :D ;D

Thx Alexa--but I'm not the only one involved in the process. :D

Two bikes to get suspensions done by GMD

Two sets of bodywork to get painted by Bryan's Sportbike Painting

Two sets of leathers to be cleaned up by leather repairman.

It all adds up, and then I go nutz.

Doesn't help that I've been unemployed since last September (two Daytona events in a row without a job!!)

Web, just noticed the paypal link on your signature. How clever! ;) ;D Anyone "donate" yet?

yup, someone donated $.01 the other day.

Speaking of pennies, I also have a penny drive going.  There are like 20 of those 5 gallon water jugs at gas station, pizza places, conveince stores, etc all over my neighborhood asking for people to 'support your local athlete in his attempt to battle against the national factory race teams in the largest race in the US'.

Of course, all proceeds from the race go to charity.

Yes, every year I go for this.  I enjoy the quiet of the off season.

I'm getting stressed....LOL!  Only chocolate chip cookies know how I feel... ;D

Dave, you are eating emotionally. :o Now go out to the garage, look at the dirt bike.  ;) Feel the studs on the ice tires, :D and REMEMBER, Sunday is only 2 days away. ;D Repeat: Sunday is only 2 days away... ;D ;D ;D

I have a bunch of H1's in the garage.  That's it.  Everyone has a bigger budget than I, so they have ice bikes.  I just hope that I can ride them.

I can't ride on Sunday either.  I have the Pinewood Derby with my oldest son Alex...

Where are my chips...

I have an ice bike but my local placed changed the damn rules and won't let in canadian screws anymore.

I'm not gonna spend more money on another set of ice tires

thx Wiz, i'm counting on you here.  just give me a floor, i'm not picky.

Being unemployed since September isn't helping the cause any either.  Two Daytona trips (which entail 2 ccs events, two f/usa events, and one ama event) all while unemployed can really hurt--and i clearly have my priorities screwed up.  Fortunately, I have a large trailer and I don't seem to have any problems filling it up with other racer's bikes. :D :D

All the pieces are slowly coming together.  I should have the bike back this week from GMD, then :

slap on the subframe and electronics
mount and cut the bodywork to get that painted
put on the throttle bodies, airbox, tank
install pipe
install radiator
install new chains and sprockets

Mind you I have to do this double--once for the 'a' bike, and again for the 'b' bike.

B-bike, backup bike, rain bike, teaching bike--call it what you like. :D

But yes, I have a 2nd bike virtually identical to the mainbike except for the engine work, triple clamps, and and has bodywork a lil heavier.

I got the bike at a low cost, and the cost of prepping it has really really been affordable due to an already existing collection of  spares, great sponsors, bargain ebay hunting, and selling of stock items.

Believe it or not, its only cost me $1k to take it from stock street bike to full on racebike, and no, i'm not using cheap parts. :D  Biggest costs were the Hindle pipe, Penske triple, bodywork, and the inverted forks from a '03 Suzuki 1k.

I'll be using that bike for rain races, emergencies, as well as for on track teaching with Penguin Racing.

I'm keeping the charging system on this one (along with the kickstand most of the time) to allow for ease of use while teaching and it also keeps my cost down since the A-bike's motor is so built that I NEED to run the $$$$$ VP gas in it, plus reduce the wear/tear on it.
