Title: Speaking of fees - Road America
Post by: Jeff on January 13, 2004, 12:11:45 PM
Tiff, or anyone...

Do you know what the fees will be at Road A this year?  Will they be the same as a "normal" weekend or $100/$50/$50/$50.... ?

They won't be normal.

The place costs too much to rent.

That's what I figured...

Hey Tiff, if we can get fees, that would be helpful.  Also, if you can notify us of anything "special" it would also be appreciated.

To define "special", let me give you my whining complaint/story...

After registering for $500 worth of races at Road America last year, when I showed up, there was a big sign "NO REFUNDS ON ANY ROAD AMERICA RACE".  I thought that kinda sucked since there was no advance notice, but I played my cards.

I lost...  I popped my motor in the 2nd race, and watched ~$400 races go up in smoke.  Normally I would have qualified for a refund, but after talking to Tech, the Race director and other officials, I was told not to even bother and that I was out of luck.

I accepted this, and went on.  I didn't have any "issue" with it until I see a guy 1/2 way through the season paying for BHF days using Road America crash certificates!!!  I asked him and he said he went down and broke his frame, filed for refunds and they were given to him...

Now, I'm not asking for anything from that day since it's long gone.  However, what I would like is to have it known up front, and to have everyone treated equally.

Thanks...

I have heard of that from the race director and tech inspector at certain events.  But it was never the case.  There will be some kind of notification.

Regardless, you should have went down to registration and filed.  It is unfortunate...in addition to being annoying.

The other side of the coil is that the said race director has told racers that if they didn't like the gridding (AM/EXGTU?) that he would refund their money.  And regarding the same topic, another rider was told not to race, but he wouldn't refund his fees.

I feel for you Jeff.

Consistency is really the key.  I know that sometimes things get inconsistent in order to make some people happy, but then the same rule doesn't apply to others which does more harm than good.

Things like rain/cold/etc where a person could race, but chooses not to should not be refunded.  However, when a person cannot race, the rules should be followed as put into place.

We have little room to complain since the race director has overall authority over everything....
