Title: Rennsport bodywork
Post by: K3 Chris Onwiler on January 11, 2004, 01:54:34 PM
I purchaced a set from this new company and installed it this weekend.  As usual, I wrote an article about it for the paper.  Here is the last paragraph.

Overall, I was very pleased with the Rennsport bodywork.  My first pleasant surprise was that I ordered it on a Tuesday afternoon, and had it in my hands Thursday night!  It fit the bike almost as well as Sharkskins.  Like Sharkskins, Rennsport bodywork is sprayed with a coat of quality primer before it leaves the factory.  Airtech and Hotbodies are delivered without primer.  A perfectionist might spend a bit of time sanding the primer to perfection, but I was happy to send it to the painter as-is.  Of course I won't know how durable Rennsport bodywork is until I crash on it.  (Gee, I can't wait...)  Overall, I would rate this bodywork below Sharkskinz, but better than Airtech, way better than Hotbodies, and with a lower price than any of them.  I'd call that a good value!  For the racer, track day rider,  or the street rider with a projector beam and a hole saw in his hot little hands, Rennsport fiberglass bodywork could be just the ticket.

In my opinion, Rennsport is worth a look

Jordan,

I saw a posting on the WERA board for Rennsport recently.  Their link is www.rennsportbodies.com

As I remember they may not be producing bodywork for a large variety of bikes yet as they are a new company.  They do seem to be adding new models fairly quickly though.

Good luck!

Rick

Thanks for the link(S) ;D    Well they are the cheapest I've seen so far.   Does the GSXR body fit on an SV anyone know?  Sale ends Jan 15 ;)

Somebody else will have to answer on the GSXR question....  as far as them producing SV bodywork I recall that they said they would have '03-04 models available soon.  I asked about pre '03 and the reply I got was that they would have to evaluate the demand - but no plans till at least Spring.

Here's the WERA link I saw....

Yes it does.

Paul ran GSXR-600 body work for the first year and a half.

Hey Chris does the bodywork come with any fastners or brackets?  Holes pre-drilled?

Do they?  I sent them an email last night with questions about the GSXR body work. $550 after the sale is still cheeper.  I paid more than that last year for not so hot and rip in a crash holly bodies ( LOL)

How would you rate the flexibility of the bodywork?

Not nearly as flexible as Sharkskinz.  I saw this body work and was not that impressed with it.

The tail section looked nice, but it looked like it would take a lot of work to make it fit well (at least for the upper and lower of an R6).

The lower on the R6 (just behind the wheel) was not molded in a straight line.  The top coat on it had some pits in it.  Nothing bad (certainly for a race bike anyway).

We met the owner (Jim I think was his name).  Real nice guy!  Seems like he will stand behind his product 100%.

Hey!  Wait a minute!  I started this post!  Everybody say they were referred by ME!!!  Let's see...  $15 per referal, $450 devided by 15...  OK, I need thirty of you guys to say I refered you! ;D

As to the flexability question, I asked that myself.  The company is new, so almost every set of bodywork is a development piece.  They said that they are changing the way they make the bodywork to make it more flexible, and the few minor nitpicks I had about the bodywork (still better than most I've bought) were going to be addressed.  I believe that the newness, small size and racing background is going to work in our favor here, as the product will be continuiously refined with our input.  Already it's really good stuff for the price, and it will probably only get better.

Title: Thread Hijacking
Post by: Burt Munro on January 12, 2004, 04:01:32 PM
Ok... now I'm really disappointed!

What good is the Department of Homeland Security?  I thought they were supposed to protect us from hijackings!

They spend all this money setting up policies and hiring new security screeners and yet we still can't be safe from having threads hijacked!

What do you mean?  That's not the kind of security from hijacking that they protect us from?   But I thought we were at Thread level yellow?

Oh... it's not Thread?  It's THREAT Level Yellow?

But...   I thought....   I mean, I was told.....

OH NEVERMIND!
