Thanks, Vicki! I'll be sure and take it with me to show all my doctors. :-) I think I've been pretty lucky, so far. None of them seem to be of the "motorcyclists are all idiots!" variety. Though I am kinda tired of hearing "you're lucky to even still HAVE your foot." Yeah, I know. Enough already! Just fix it!

QuoteHey Stu:

How is your recovery coming along?

Dawn   ;)

Hey Dawn,

Well, it's good news/bad news. Around about the time of the ROC I was able to start walking. But I still can't tilt my foot up. So, on December 22nd, I went in for more surgery. They took some bone material out of my hip and grafted it in to my tibia to get it to heal faster. And they looked at the cut muscle/tendons in the same area as the break to try and do something to fix them. They decided there was nothing they could do.

Since then, I've talked to a foot and ankle specialist in Philadelphia that is pretty optimistic that he can fix it, and I've talked to Dr. Ting's office (haven't talked to the man himself yet). I've got another test to get done here locally and then I'll be sending full copies of my records to both of the new docs and if they both still think they can fix me up, then I'll go see both of them before deciding which one to go with for further treatment.

At this point, I'm still optimistic that I'll get some function back. And I really have to get some flexibility back in my ankle before I could race again. But I'm optimistic on that too. I just have to keep plugging away and see what comes of it.

Thanks for asking, by the way. I hope you and everybody else had a great holiday season. I was out of the hospital before Xmas, so that was good, anyway. :-)

- Stu

Stu, I sent your copy out yesterday so you should get it at the latest on Monday.  Keep me updated on what the docs tell ya.  Take care.

Amazing photos of a really bad day.  Thought my boy Chef was done...  I was sitting in his lawn chair as I watched him fly by.  Everyone else looks at those pictures and goes, "WOW!"  I don't need to see them, because I'll never be able to forget watching that crash for as long as I live.  Even though I wish I could...

BTW,
VERY Good work, and THANKS!!! Vicki (and your brother, Rick <rite?>)
THANKS to everyone who's been so supportive through this whole thing that this BIG DRAMATIC event has been so reduced to something that "just kinda happened"
(which I'm talking to everyone, we have one of the greatest environments that exist!)

Stu, just be as patient as you can, I believe it will happen for you with todays technology, may be a lil longer than we all hope, but, it may NOT be!
hang tuff!!! we're all pullin for ya!

And really thank EVERYONE else too....

Ike

p.s.
K3, I really wanted to see how you'd do on my bike !!!  that part does suck, you looked pretty cool (and fast) on it!!!    :)
Title: Re: New RRW: Crash page
Post by: K3 Chris Onwiler on January 13, 2004, 02:35:38 AM
Yeah, I think your Honda and I could have been fast friends.  That bike was real user friendly.  The Gixxer had been kicking my a$$ at Barber, but I started going fast on your CBR after lap two...
Did you manage to salvage anything from that bike?  My guess was pieces of the engine and the shock.  Thank God you fared better than the bike did!
Title: Re: New RRW: Crash page
Post by: Chef on January 13, 2004, 12:52:21 PM
Well...
I thought the motor and shock was good afterwards, maybe wishful thinking....
They both needed rehabing.... I changed out the motor on the back up bike but couldnt get it cranked, my buddy, Guy, over at Expert Cycle in Blue Island said he had to go inside, but got it back together in time to be a back up for his f4i that he let me borrow for Daytona...
also put the penske on the f4i, but at Daytona, had to let Thermos Man rebuild it (it was hurt pretty bad)
....
it all came together pretty well... considering that I really dont have to be able to WALK following the "incident"  ;)

Wow, I saw the pictures in RRW.  Was the cause really running low on fuel with the following bike hitting the lead bike as the motor stumbled?

W'sup Bruce....

I was the One flying, Ike, and the story goes like this...

I pre-entered my races, but added this one late (at the track), ... which put me in the second wave, row two,... 23rd startind spot.... (waaaayyyy back)
that wreck was the final strait to the finish (race over)
well... they put me in a 10th place finish in the books...
I think that I had taken to the track better than a  lot of the guys, cuz by the 2nd lap I had caught and started passing into the 1st wave....
I'm sure Stu was running in the top 5 or close to it...
(we're both top 5 riders)...
so on the final turn, I am able to get into the turn under one guy, and upon exiting I noticed that I was getting suprisingly close to the next guy, and thats pretty much the last thought I had ... cuz the next thing I saw was the one in front of me (who I was closing in on fairly hard) he and Stu came together on a side swipe and I knew that I couldnt avoid contact in anyway, so..... I...... ..... uhm... sorta quickly decided that the best option would be to try and go over the top cuz there wasnt time to get left or right, nor stop... so I closed my eyes (really really tight!!!) jumped, held my breath (really really tight) and braced (really...) and there you have the photo's....

Even tho I have another one from the opposite andle that I'm holding till these sorta die down...
I have a ressurection photo, you can see that I flew no less that a 1/4 mile... (soon to come) (I have to get it converted)

Hey Scott!!! Wutsup Man?!?!....
Good to hear from you, and a million thanks, again, for trying to calm Lonette down (team-mate) at Barber!!! She said she couldnt move  ;D It's fun to tease her now  ::) but I cant imagine switching shoes with her at THAT time... But I always say, WE have a GREAT COMMUNITY, us racers, and our families (cant leave out the ones (like Lonette) who drag us out and keep us going when we get discouraged)(does that happen to anyone else?)...That was good timing on your part....
well everything is going good... just need about 5-6k so i can get a new bike and start crying broke and dreaming about the track, whenever i'm not there...

Tell your Dad I said "WUTTUP!!!" and I still got his #, and I still plan on checking out that offer he made me  ;D ...... oh, GOOD WORK at Daytona Too, Was proud for you, you rode good!!!
no problem on the autograph (Who would turn down some one who wanted your hancock in cafe???  ;)

And NO WAY I'M MISSING BARBER!!!! SWEET SWEET TRACK !!!!!
everyone needs to go!!!

Bruce,
THANKS....

STUMPSTER!!!!!
Miss you guys MAN!!!.... I want you to know that I'm sure it's gonna take me a few weekends to catch you and that (slow-poke) BENJI....
but dont look back ( I dont want you to make it too easy on me  ;D )
