Title: motorcycle racing anonymous
Post by: G_2_G on September 27, 2001, 05:51:57 AM
Hi my name is Steve and I am a racing junkie.  I have been racing for two years and cannot get enough. ;D It does not matter if it is a local race cross country race or an open track day I crave racing.  Though I try to tell my wife that I really need that latest preformance mod on my bike she just doesn't want to hear it.  :'( Thank god I take care of the check book. ;) So I come hear to ease the pain of not racing during the week and get my quick fix of bench racing.

            Who's next?

*all together* Hi Steve.

My name is Shawn, and I'm a racing junkie.  I'm new to the addiction.  I've raced three race weekends, and taken classes from Ed Bargy and Frank Kinsey.  I've lowsided two times, and T-boned a bike that was sliding down the road in front of me (after just dismounting its rider).  Obviously, me (and my FZR400!) are still in need of some work!

Been at this since 96, on the Board of Directors of the south central regional affliate CMRA, in line to win my first championship all I need is top 20 this weekend; been runner up twice before.
Hope everyones season is winding up nicely.

Eric,

Congratulations on your championship!  That must be an awesome feeling!  I'm just waiting for the time when I can compete in the top half :)

Yeah I won by default the guy in second didn't bother coming this weekend.

Oh well it puts me on the front row for Daytona. There should be some stiff compensation there

Racing junkie.

Luis here

Well, it's looks like I came to the right place.  My signature should not give the impression that I have a drug problem here. Though I do have an addiction.  :D

I am also new to road racing.  So far this season I have four race weekends under my belt.  I have raced Homestead, Moroso and Roebling Road. And I can't wait to hit the new North Florida Motorsports Park in Jennies FL.

Surprisingly enough, I am not to excited about doing Daytona. This track can be very expensive. It's really hard on motors and tires.   I know, I know, If I am complaining about money, then maybe I'm in the wrong hobby.   But I guess the other thing that bothers me about Daytona is the LONG straightaway.

I find tracks with lots of straight boring.  Out of the three tracks I have done already, RR was the most fun. :D  It also lets the lightweight guys catch the big boys in the twisties. ;) And that's real fun. :D :D

Hi, Luis.

My name is Dave.  Everyone calls me Super Dave, and I am in debt up to and beyond the eye balls of the Statue of Liberty.

I am looking for either a grant or a government program to help me with my addiction.

I don't mind walls as much as everyone else...I just go slower.  I do prefer short tracks with technical sections, but I do like sliding for about 400 feet through Brainerd's turn two...really fast, but the slide is really, really slow.

wow Dave you picked up an old thread. I had not thought of Luis in quite a while, I wonder how he is doing these days. He used to be on the old speedvision street and track message board quite a lot.

Eric, I think it's like licensed racers...people just kind of go away after a while.

Where are other people's stories? ;D

Hello My name is Michael Jordan.  (Yes, pretty much heard them all, thank you)

I started riding in 2002 on a Can-o-tuna.  Went to Blackhawk with a friend that raced (Andy Adler) to see what it was all about.  Wanted to do it, got a bit taken back when I was told the costs but wanted to do it anyway.  2003 first year racing, first race at Road America weekend, one crash, three 3rd place wood!!  Raced at Daytona.  Currently riding a stock MZ.  Avoiding to much debt...so far...2004-can't wait!!!!

My name is K3, and I'm a racaholic.
I was doomed from conception.  There's a rumor that I may have been concieved during the fall SCCA regional at Road America in 1962. I helped win several sports car road ralleys while still in-utero.  My dad was racing cars when I was born.  It never seemed wrong to me.  After all, my parents were even doing it.  That stopped when I was 18, after my parents got divorced and the car went away.  Immediatly I went into withdrawals, and being a broke teenager in need of a fix, I did the only thing I could do.  I prostituted myself on corners.  I corner-worked until I was 35.  Since by then I had finally gotten a decent handle on the finances of being an adult, I decided to move up to the big time and go CCS racing.
It was the real thing, but I thought I could handle it.  I started small, just a recreational user.  I got a wrecked EX500, and prepped it to the bare minimum.  Two weekends that first year.  The next season I stepped it up a bit.  I did about five races, and at the end of the season I tried a genuine set of racing tires.  The hook was set, but still I thought I was in control.  I bought a stock FZR400, thinking that it would be better but still cheap.  Things got worse.
I woke up laying on the pavement.  In the heights of my addiction this did not seem odd.  The doctor at the hospital tried to tell me that I should quit, but I wasn't listening.  Instead of quitting, the 400 became a 560 superbike.  I started to get wood.  Now nothing mattered.  Loans, lies, all nighters...  It was just a part of the lifestyle.  My friends didn't try to stop me.  They were long gone, replaced by other junkies like me who I'd met at the track.  I won six amateur championships, and scored Daytona wood.  Life couldn't have been better!  I ws riding high on the wave of my addiction, not thinking or caring about the consequences.
CCS gave me a white plate.  Suddenly, things were much more serious.  If I was ranked an expert, I was damn well going to be an expert.  I started riding with the hard core guys who could handle it better than I could.  I OD'd myself into several guardrails, but still I didn't quit.  I blew motors and bent frames, but I just kept coming back.  Racing was trying to beat me, and BY GOD, I WASN'T GOING TO BE BEATEN!!!
Through some amazing stroke of good fortune, I crawled out of my first year as an expert with two regional championships.  I don't even care any more.  My mind, body, soul and bank account are irrepairably damaged.  Take a good look, kids!  This is what racing does to you!  Do you want to end up like me?
Is it spring yet? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi, Kris...

To admit that you're a road racer, you have to admit that you have a problem and you can't stop.

We're here for you.

Dear Kevin.  I read your post to my wife.  She says that all my friends are big fat liars, just like me.  It would probably be a bad thing to get your wife and my wife together...
Oh, she thinks you're a sandbagger too! :D

Now, I think we should support Kevin C as he is showing us how strong his affliction effects him.

Kevin C, we understand.  We've all been there.

(Actually, we're all going to race Brainerd at amateurs.... ;D)

I am so there! But wait.......I've never raced at Brainerd. Is there a class below the amatuer level? :'(

that's funny Kev, when Greg Moon "Moon's Super Cycle" asked me when i changed my plugs last,
i said " what do you mean?"

I guess i just forgot about the engine needing to be maintained. Gas and go baby.... I know now that I
have been so foolish ;) I could have done so much better this past season ;D

Benji.
