Title: Grid start electronics?
Post by: lbk on December 06, 2003, 07:01:06 AM
I was talking to a friend about what I thought existed. I swore I heard on one of the MotoGP races that they have an electronic system that basically automates the starting process. Some sort of a timer that automatically engages the clutch to reduce room for error on the starting grid.

Have I just been smoking crack, or does such a device exist? If it does anyone have more info about what it is and how it works?

Well the reason I ask this is because I'm tyring to figure out what was on a Ducati that was at JenningsGP. The owner has an Ducati that was a Goeberts race bike, then painted to look like the Bostrom L&M. Anyway looking at the bike there was some device mounted up front that was an electronic box of some sort. It had a dial on it, with numbers looked to be a delay of some sort.

Anyone know what that would've been?

You should have asked him what it was. ;D No really those bikes had a magnetta marrelli data system on board. Or it could be a shifter delay. Who knows, go back and ask the guy. :P

Sure wish I could because that would mean I could get some more track time in. But since it's about 1000 miles each way I don't see that happening. LOL

Ok just found out apparently it is for the quick shifter. Someone on the JenningGP forum apparently knows. :D

Ok now back to my crack pipe. Oh and Rob Give me a Katana and I will still hand you your butt out there. LOL
