Title: On board camera
Post by: SlowDragon on November 12, 2003, 01:41:10 PM
Hi

Is it legal to run a video camera during a race? I think I remember seeing footage of a CCS race on the web somewhere.

The camera mount I have just securely attaches the camera to the fuel tank - nothing fancy - so I wanted to get some feedback on whether this would pass tech inspection.

Doug - you can buy a copy of yourself winning the SW GTO championship  ;D

Thanks in advance

The CCS rule book says you can have a camera only if it is mounted on top of your helmet and measures 3 feet X 2 feet.

Cool but I may have to mount the bike on the camera if it's that large.

Ask your tech guy. Its up to them in reality. In actual races I've never seen one. In practice I have.

Most of last season i had a camera mounted on my bike during parctice and races. I on an average can prove the lapping of #940 at least 4 times in a 8 lap race :o ;D. Any know how to reach Mr. Kantu? I have some real good video of him that his poor vcr ate.

I ahve seen the tank mounted cameras in races but would find it restrictive.  I had a camera in the nose of my ZX6R and it would have been allowed if I had offset the number plate so it didn't interfere with it.  THe best setup I have seen is the camera under the tail and a helmet cam mounted to the front brace looking throught he windscreen.

Stumpy uses a small lipstick camera hooked up to a small camcorder mounted in the bodywork.  He has the camera mounted in the air intake hole thingymerbobber on his 600rr.  He got the camera from //www.viosport.com (which happens to be located about a 1/2 block away from my desk here at work--we didn't even know this when researching).  It works great so far.

Hey, Greg's dad just got a DVD burner for this stuff.  We also have the footage on CD-Rs.  We could probably hook you up with it!

Heather

Edited to say Oooops, this is Heather, not Stumpy!

I have a Helmet Camera brand lipstick tube camera that I have only used a couple times so far. They offer 2 different resolutions of camera, I purchased the better one, the picture quality is incredible! I had mine mounted on the outside of the bodywork where the right side mirror used to be. I used the supplied industrial velcro and then put a ziptie around it that went thru the bodywork and around the upper fairing bracket, this kept the camera very steady. Along with the remote activation button that came with it, I am completely satisfied with the entire package!  :)

Hey Benji, Don't worry about $$$.

We disconnected our house phone now so we just have our cell phones--and no telemarketers!!

I'll have Greg's pops burn you a copy of Benji-pertainent footage.  Including the Gerd Anthum!

OK we'll just send you everything from that weekend.  The Gerd song is from Greg's dad's videos.  And there's live Gerd footage on the onboard--he goes off the track right in front of Stumpy everytime he goes by like he can hear him coming or something!  You've seen that I think--and when Stump almost @sspacked 911 in practice when he decided to pull in at the last second out of T7.  Plus there's a bit of footage of 187's wreck in 7.  Fun stuff to watch though.

Heather, would it be possible for me to get a copy of some of Greg's footage? I'd love to have an onboard video of BHF and Road America to watch over and over while I dream of my next SV!  ;D

$5 OK, or more?

I think we could arrange to get that put together for ya Nate!  Road America features our own Steviebee testing out his leathers in the bend :o!

Steve-o, I haven't forgotten about you, either.  I went to mail your discs and I can't find them so I have to get them from Greg's pops again.

I'd better make him a list!

Heather

PS - If anyone has tried to email me, my email's been down since yesturday with no end in sight and Stumpy has a new address:  rocketracer256@charter.net

Just don't follow my lines Nate...Especially when I'm in the grass ::) Following StevieB was pretty fun except when he's sliding in front of me :o
If you put your leather and gear on and hop on your bike and watch it its almost real..Don't ask me how I know 8)
