Just had speed on and there was some sort of auto grand am champ series on from Daytona--and it was NIGHTTIME.
At first I though it was a 24hr race, but it wasn't, just 26 or so laps long.
Why do those guys get to stick around after 6pm and we get tossed on our ass?
That is a spectator event, and I probably guess that they can have so many per year. If it's a matter of completing the event, they'll do it. FUSA a couple of years ago...2001?...was completed in near dark conditions because of rain and oil delays.
stands sure looked empty
They are using the whole road course right? Kind of like the Daytona 200.
If it's the series that I think it is, Daytona International Speedway owns the series. And the person that sets it all up and runs it...Roger Edmonson...the guy that created CCS.
I can't be sure, but it might be that series.
Oh, and this IS on TV. ROC is not.
ya, full road couse, that was the only reason i left it on. :D
Spring Bike week is televised and they still boot you out. :D
Can you say $$$$$$$$$. That's what it's all about. The sporty cars pay much more money and have much more pull than us motorcycle folks ever will. Get over it. Besides, the Daytona folks love Roger Edmondson. He pretty much gets what he wants down there.
I remember back in the 90's Roger Edmonson mentioning that we in no way wanted to have the lights turned on at Daytona because the cost just to 'flip the switch' is astronomical and CCS was not going to pay for that.
i would imagine everyone in the track would have to be paid overtime, and that would be a very big bill, aside from other things. Car races have alot more money, and they can afford to pay for it. Now if we can attract a 10,000 people crowd maybe we can do some "races under the lights" until then, race and get the heck out...
I always wanted to do a race under the lights. I'd get some Tireflys, some Neons... Man, I'd be STYLIN!! ;D
Back in the mid 80's we used to race the "Paul Revere 100" a two rider endurance race. It started at 11:45pm on July 3rd and ran into July 4th. It was held during the Pepsi 400 Nascar weekend.
Just another of Roger E's inovative attempts to get wider exposure for motorcycle racing.
Please remember that Roger IS an employee of Daytona International Speedway.
There was talk of running the Team Challenges at Gateway under the lights.
Additionally, there was talk of running at Vegas under the lights, for NASB or early FUSA.
I think I remember my friend, Paul Mason, telling me he ran a night endurance race at Gateway a couple of years ago.
Yes, Roger IS an employee of ISC. He got that job after sweet talking them for many, many years. No dummy is Roger. ;D

Would have been with WERA, and it would have probably been before 2000....97 or 98 maybe.
I had to listen to those loud ass cars last week LOL
