I got clobbered in turn one at Daytona on the first practice day... darn it! It was my first one after all these years! Ouch!!
Post if it's been zero...
"zero" it is... :)
Zero for Paul....
... but then again he has a lot of cushion around them bones.
Dawn ;D
Five times, thank you very much. I now self diagnose, slip on a figure 8 brace and stop by the doctors office just to get a second opinion and make it official. ;)
Three times same place!! Now have large knot on left side. Last time had to show West Virginia nurse(male) how to put on the "eight" brace.
A couple of seasons ago I was scouring the Blackhawk paddock looking for a part. As I spoke with dozens of racers I'd never met before, I noticed the tell-tale lump of a broken collar bone (or bones) poking up through the T-shirts of a bunch of guys. Seems like it was about 50/50 broken vs. not broken.
For the record, I'm in the 50% that have broken one.
I wear a neck collar. I low sided once since I got it, although I landed on my face (messed up face shield proved it...) my neck & collar bones were fine. Arm & shoulder were self-diagnosed as sprained.
I haven't broken them yet but I'm still pretty new...
Quotedwilson- I wear a neck collar.
A neck collar wouldn't have done squat to prevent my two breaks.
3 times.......none racing. ;)

I was in that 50 % with the tell tailed bump! I broke mine 2 seasons ago in the first practice sesson at Summit Point T-1. Got back up, picked up the Buell, got back on, finished my practice, drove mysellf to the hospital, got my, x-rays, brace, sling, drugs, drove back to the track, hung out with my buds, drove back to Rockford alone. What a memorable weekend that was. :o ;D
Summit Point, Turn-1
None so far for me. Not surprising to hear that you broke yours though, Eddie. You have those brittle effemate little bones... ;D
None for me. I think it's genetic. I guess I have really, really strong bones.
Bone stuff, Eddie...

This is where to get it.
Eddie! And here I am saying all year "Ed Bingham never crashes." Jeez.
For the record, never--lots of sprained ankles (tennis), jammed fingers (basketball), and a sore tailbone these days (ice).
Stumpy is a never as well. That dirtbike may bite him some day though.

KNOCK ON WOOD!!!
Zero, but my ankle still hurts quite a bit from Gateway (although my doc says it's not broken)
Twice on the same side. Would you believe I gave up roadracing after 5 years because my wife go pregnant, then later that year I broke it the first time due to a highside on a 250cc dirtbike. That was Labor Day 2002. Two weeks ago I rebroke it on the same 250cc ditbike I now refer to as the "Devil Bike".
Forget going to the doctor and forget the figure-8 strap. I did both the first time and the orthopedic surgeon said the strap does more harm than good. It could cause blood clots in the arms which outweigh the benefits of the strap. Just let it heal and use your arm as much as possible while it heals to avioid needing physical theorpy after it heals
Ummmm...
Not yet.
Not yet, 1st year, only 2 crashes, once over the bike and one low side. I hear that your leathers fit better after you've broken your colar bone tho? ;D
I skipped the collarbone and went straight for the scapula. Higher degree of difficulty. ;D
None yet. :D I'd probably have to fall down first. To do that I would have to be faster. :P
Only once, but it was broken into 4 pieces. Do I get bonus points?
- Stu
None - for some reason I'm harder on shoulders than collar bones - Separated shoulder with surgery to fix & dislocation of same shoulder in June at Gateway.
Oh and Eddie, my ankle also still hurts from Gateway, but it was the June Gateway when I crashed and put myself out for the rest of the season.
DAM Chicane!!!

Three times for me. I broke it all 3 times on the right side. (I am a lefty and wanted to make sure that I could still write.) :) None of the breaks happened while racing. ???
QuoteI skipped the collarbone and went straight for the scapula. Higher degree of difficulty. ;D
I got that also with the third time in WV! ;) and some ribs!
Broke mine once in 2 places 20 years ago on a dirt bike. I think broken collar bones are more common in motocross/off road racing than road racing.
Never have. ;D ;D
Scapula (Shoulder blade) & dislocation.
Too hot into T1 Summit - clipped another bikes rear.
In September, still healing.

Although I didn't brake any collarbones I Tore my Labrum in my shoulder, (Doc says I need Surgery, Stumpy says Nope)Broke my toe in the Pit Bike race at BHF when Kevin Gorden Crashed in front of me and I landed on him :o. And Chipped bones in my elbow from the crash at Road America...Other than that a pretty healthy year :-/ Hittin' the gym hard again though and workin out all those kinks(all but the Road America One ;))

QuoteNever have. ;D ;D
That's because you don't go fast enough to crash...
Oooopppsss! Did that slip out? :o
Hee heee heee
;D
labral tear Stumpy.... you'll live.
broke my concentration a few times...like when SuperDave was our umbrella girl... or when the dear hit Tony.....or when I took the nap down the short straight..... luckily I was asleep and don't remember much of it...new forks...triples..wheel...boots...helmet..
or how bout the time I got stuck behind Gurd the Terd...I was totally confused after that one.
Lil-Thorny
a few getoffs but no broken collar bones ;D
Dave, The bone stuff works very well! I found an old post and bought some 3 days ago. Feeling better already.
;D oh and for the record, I was crashed into in turn one at Daytona.
NEVER BROKEN,BUT ALOT OF BRUISED SHOLDERS......
Gateway bit me, back in 2001, first race as an expert. Broke one collarbone. It didn't heal, so they added some titanium. I can tell whenit's going to rain.
Highside, break right collar bone, guys with me said I went 10 ft. airborne.
Hospital took -xray, gave to Dr. He said sit for a month and come back, 3 weeks later go Dr. he says oh no, we must put in plate. He did not even take an x-ray to see that part of Collar Bone was resting on top of my lung for those 3 weeks. After another 4 weeks of sitting, 8 weeks of theropy, still miserable.
Raced Daytona in Oct. 02 with plate in, by March.02, raced with it out.
Still weak right arm but able to race. Thanks for the delay Doc.

Quote;D oh and for the record, I was crashed into in turn one at Daytona.
I'll bet your tiny oriental body crushed like a little bird. ;D I guess whoever hit you didn't have as much love for you as I do... :o
(For those who don't know, I once stoppied over the top trying not to t-bone Eddie. Still not sure if I was being too agressive or if he was just slow...) ;)
No broken collar bones here. Worst I did was crash my 3-wheeler (yeah, that long ago) and fracture my femur. I have crashed the bike a few times this year but have been pretty lucky. I highsided at Mid-Ohio during a wet track day and somehow managed to not even injure my shoulders. I guess my hard head took most of the impact. Even that didn't really do much damage to me....what was I talking about? Who are you people?
;)
No broken collorbone [yet] and Im in no rush :P
For the record though: Three tears in the rotator cuff (rt shoulder),[ oups not a bone] Seven broken ribs, dislocated hip, both wrists and ankles broken, broken tailbone, right knee cap knocked off and regraphed, :o right forarm with tendent damage. And alot of staples, stitches, 100mile-an-hour tape butterflies ;D
I'll leave the collarbones to Chuck Stephen JR. ;)
QuoteEven that didn't really do much damage to me....what was I talking about? Who are you people?
;)
;D LOL!
I have never broken my colar bone. I did , however, hit my shoulder with the microphone once :o THAT HURT TOO!! :o
Hope the healing process is coming along fine. Just think of all the "Honey Do" stuff you'll get out of this winter! ;D ;D
See you next spring.............. ;D
