Title: California vs 48 state gas tank Swap?
Post by: dylanfan53 on October 11, 2003, 02:25:47 PM
Does anyone know if there's a difference, due to emissions stuff, between a California and 48 state Yamaha R6 tank?  I'm wondering if I can plunk a  CA tank on a 48 state bike without any venting/fuel starvation problems.  I've had problems with this in the past on other bikes.
Thanks.

Wow, that's a good question.

There might be a cannister or something FOR the CA version.

Have you checked with a Yamaha dealer to make sure that there is a different tank necessarily?  Not the assembly, but the tank only and maybe the cap, or something.

Right you are, Dave.  As it turns out, the tank is the same but the cap is a different part number.  I think that means different venting between models so I'll stick with a known non CA tank set up just to be safe.  I've been down this road before and spent half a summer trying to track down a fuel starvation problem that was caused by a "mix and match".
Thanks!
