Title: Grid positions
Post by: Tom Fredricks on September 10, 2003, 03:21:12 PM
Now that we are blessed with transponders could it not be possible to qualify using our practice times for grid positions instead of who registers first or are we not that advanced yet ? Just kinda curious as to what others think of this.

As long as we are not using the practice time to determine our lap times.  The practice group for the LW classes (usually group 4) are so large that all one can do is practice their passing technique.

Then that brings up the problem of what about someone who either only can race one day or someone who misses both practices because of mechanical problems? Someone brought this up before and it wasnt pretty.

You're all correct.

In the expert classes, we have guys running lightweight bikes (because they don't like the lightweight practice) running times about ten seconds off the fast times.  Same again, practice passing.  Trick is that when you approach a bike with 40MPH more speed in a section and the light weight line is dramatically different than the bigger bike line...
