Title: Fluid Retention for RS250?
Post by: cbriderdan on August 18, 2003, 08:05:06 PM
Can someone tell me if a fluid retention pan is required for the Aprilia RS250?

I only saw a note in the rule book regarding 4-strokes.  Did I miss something?

Thanks,
Dan

2 strokes are not required to have fluid retaining pan for CCS.

No.  Besides none of the available bodywork has that capability.  I believe the Yam's and the Hondas have longer lower fairing for aerodynamics, not fluid retention.

BTW,  I have a couple of sets of Aprilia bodywork that I am trying to sell.  Interested?

Dan:

There is no rule...yet...for two-strokes to have to have a fluid retaining belly pan.  However, if you fit an aftermarket exhaust system (ie Arrow, etc.) you fill find that the header pipes like to leak oil at the attachment point to the cylinder...no matter what!  I finally crafted my own belly pan using some of the fiberglass tips in the forum's 'wrenching' section and I was very happy i did when the crank on my 316 Aprilia exploded last race!  When I took the pan off I found both oil (only about 30 cc) and pieces of sharp metal!  These came from the big hole the crank punched through the bottom of the crankcase!

Think about it...

By the way...Multitech, Mototek, and I believe some other bodywork crafters like Sharkskinz are now producing aftermarket bodywork WITH fluid retaining belly pans!

Thanks for the feedback.  Guess I'll just run the current bodywork for now!
