A quick overview of Barber. Great track. Beautiful beyond belief. Millions in landscaping and sculpture. Blind twisty rollercoaster. Hot, humid, tropical. Daily afternoon thunder showers.
On a more serious note:
Ike had the most horrific crash I've ever seen. On the front straight, the bike in front of him blew up and turned sideways. Ike T-boned the bike as it went down and was launched 20 feet in the air as his bike went end-over-end beneath him. I never saw a rider so high in the air, and this was at 120mph. Ike must have been airbourne for a block. I got the ambulance crew to let me talk to him before the transport by telling them that I was his brother... Ike called from the hospital a few hours later telling me to get his Thunderbike ready, but the doctors wouldn't let him leave. (My guess is that he had about 6000cc's of morphine in him at the time he called me.) Apparently, Ike didn't break a bone. He will need skin grafts on the back of one hand and also on a knee, but that's not bad for someone who's survived parachute failure...
Thunderbike Steve from MAM helped Dwight and I load Ike's trailer while Lonnette and Ella sat in Emergency with Ike. The F4 is nothing but a motor and a shock at best.
When I blew my motor Saturday, I was feeling pretty low. Ike was joking me, saying, "There's no crying in roadracing." That went through my head a lot during the few minutes that I thought he was dead. (Thanks for the hug Megan. It was right on time.)
Every so often this sport reminds us that it has teeth.
Thanks for the update Chris...
Dawn :)
Wow. Glad you're still with us after that Ike. Scary stuff. :(
Oh my goodness, I'm so happy it didn't turn out worse. What a description, K3. You had *me* all teared up.

Ike good to hear that your doing ok. So are u going to be at bhf to watch the races or not. Hope to see u back on the track asap. Hopefully a speedy recovery Ike.
Heath
Nothing worse than hearing about a buddy crashing than actually seeing how bad it was/could have been. Hope all is well.
Ike, get well soon. Hey, did you at least get a chance to enjoy the track?

Ike, I'm just glad you are ok!
Ike! I was looking all over for you on Sunday afternoon, no wonder I couldn't find you! I was waiting at pit out for my race when you decided to try and be Superman, I didn't know that was you until reading it here. I heard a girl screaming and then saw smoke coming up from the other side of the pit wall and people running toward the last turn, scary situation (don't do that again, ok?!) Sure glad to see ya back out there, too bad for the situation though.
Ike. Glad to hear that you are okay. Kind of funny, we weren't even at the races and one of the staff from CCS calls us to tell us all that you had crashed and were taken to the hospital. See. People do watch out for you. Hope you get better soon.
Amy

I am so happy you are ok. You may not remember me but I was the girl K-3 was talking to in the little blue car while he was giving you grief Saturday night. Something about Dyno's and bikes not liking the 4 hour trip to be ready for them!! HAHAHA Glad you are ok. I didn't know it was you until I went looking for bike numbers. Dawn
Yeah, did Steve crash at Barber too? ???
Good Lord, guys...
What a mess!
Sounds like everyone's typin', so that must be a good sign. At least you didn't burn off your nubs. ;D
Hey Ike,
I have a whole F4 that I'm parting :-)
Send me a list...
Wasn't he the other guy to crash at Barber? Or am I 'foozed again...
You had me worried when I saw your bike my stomach dropped. After I talked to K3 & Tom Mason in the pits I felt a little releif. I think I can speak for everyone in saying that we are all glad to hear that everything is pretty much ok. Heal fast I can't wait to see you out there again.
Tobias.
Ike... jesus man... glad you're okay. Now when you picking up the beer?
You are too crazy, but glad to see your okay. Everyone wants to be like the S.A.M. club, but at least they return phone calls.
As for Michelle, don't get on her bad side. Lately she has a spit fire temper and she will snap, but ya got to love her. Some days her broom is broken, but the other days she is the best. So do not be replacing the "M". I will chat at her tonight and tell her Master Ike said to act right.
Christian sends his hugs and kisses for a quick recovery. Ya know your still his favorite.
Amy
QuoteWasn't he the other guy to crash at Barber? Or am I 'foozed again...
That was Stu, #666 (and yes Stu... you do need to change your number :o ;))
Dawn :)
Duh! Thanks, Dawn ;)
Sorry if I alarmed anyone!
Ike,
Good to see your ok! Amazing that we raced together but I didn't get over to say wazzup, damn! :-/ I was in that race but only heard about the crash, sounded like a nasty one.
Heal up quick!
I was on the red R6 #298.
Peace,
Ned "Peanut" Brown
That sounds like a really really bad one, glad you are relatively ok. Stop crashing everyone, or I wont have noone to race with at daytona??? ;D
Hey Ned, how did you do anyway
sorry ike, couldnt make it to barber, lack of greenbacks, maybe i'll see you for a drink at blackhawk?
QuoteHey Ned, how did you do anyway
4 2nds, 2 3rds, and a 5 & 6th in the wet (which was pretty good for me, at least I didn't pull off..lol) Since I go straight to the back in most wet races I was happy I got some good wet practice.
Great battles with Donny, we took turns beating each other by less than a bike length. Mine for a 2nd behind Hec, his 2 for wins :-/. Hector was beatable on Sat but we didn't take advantage. By Sunday he drop another 2 secs & was doing top expert times. :o So no dice.
I actually had a few laps dicing with Ike in I think 2 races before the crash. Amazing everyone came out relatively in tact. The aftermath was terrible looking.
well if I had gone, I think you would have another big crash to spectate to ;D but I really had no bike, and didn't see the point to go that far...
Congrat on the finishes, especially I know how much you hate the rain.
See ya at summit, my bike should be back together then. btw Greg(70) from VIR is going to be at summit. My arm is feeling much better now, I hope I can get a holeshot again and stay out front this time 8) I guess you gonna be on pole and I am second again.
Glad to hear you're gonna be okay, Ike. Was with Stu (666) holding umbrella while they worked on him and he seemed like he'd be okay. Ya'll quit crashing!!! We'd rather see close racing :D
TrophyGal (Jeanne) & TrophyGuy (Alan)
Glad to see that you're okay, Ike! Hope you have a quick recovery! See you at BHF ??
Just Tim checking in! (Honda CBR954RR) #92.
To: Mr. John Deere - Hope Ireland was fun! Happy "honeymooning!"
See you all at BHF! ;D
no, i did crash, fractured my right elbow into 8 pieces and broke my neck (c6 vertabrae, non-displaced). Thanks to some overzealous amateur crashing out the guy just in front of me during practice. I hope he won that practice session >:(

Oh my! :o :-[ :'(
I am so sorry to hear that Steve. Are you in a neck brace or halo? Do you need surgery on your elbow.
Dawn :(
:-[ :'( >:( :(
That's what I thought. Dang it!!!! I hope you heal quickly and completely...

Good Lord, there have been a lot of broken bones this year.
Ok, here I go again...
For broken bones, buy this stuff from this site. You can't find it in stores, it isn't very expensive, but it WILL make your bones knit and heal quicker, period.
http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/EthicalNutrients/bonebuilder5.html
Glad to hear you're at least kickin'....
And I thought one of the reasons to be an expert was to keep away from the overzealous amateurs.
Yeah, here I am waiting patiently for the next braking zone to overtake the slower guy when this other dude ramrods his way through....4th practice...new track, I was just working on a few things not even turning fast laps yet.
The elbow required emergency surgery and yes it is back togethe now thanks to the miracles of modern medicine and metallurgy. It was a bad compound shatter job pieces sticking out of my skin...if all goes well i may recover 90% movement and normal strength.
The neck I am thankful for thr swimming I added to my workout program that really strengthened my neck muscles. It is rare to crack the c6 but non-displaced. Anyway, all the literature suggests my ridin career is over with this injury...it cannot withstand another hit....
I will look into that bone stimulus, thanks SD, and may try to corner work or help in some ways at the last 2 Gateways.
Thanks of course to the corner crew, ambulance crew, my teammates all year Todd Bohnsack, Mike Pruitt, Steve Nemish...Shalcross and Ortega and Ptak and Lacavich and everyone else who stopped by and helped and offered best wishes...I wasn't there but my teammates said lots stopped by.
One hand typins is slowww!!!!!!! :(
I'm very sorry to hear about your accident, sdiver. Take care...
Steve,
you said "in practice" just curious,
what were you guys doing with the AM's anyway.
combined practice sessions? either way, it pretty
much sucks dude. get well and take your vitamins.
hurry-up and heal your neck will be fine i'm sure,
but don't over-do anything!!!!
Benj. (part-time orthopaedic clinician) ;)
Steve,
That really sucks! Heal up man! :-/
-Kris
Ike - get well I heard that was a horrific crash albeit I didn't see it.
Steve - holy shit! that was you?? man I hope you heal up soon I heard your arm was pretty bad. broken neck????? sheeeeeit.... in practice too....... Lord I hope your racing career isn't over. That would fugging SUCK
~Pat
hey Steve, Were you taken out near T4 ?? on friday afternoon ??
Steve - Yes, in the first session after lunch for the blue group
Yeah that was me. Any eyewitness accounts? My teammate gave me his version, and of course I have mine. The guy supposedly stopped by and apologized...not sure which guy...I'm not mad at the guy per se...its just I wish priorities in a practice session would have been reevaluated a corner o 2 before the chain reaction started...In any case, I am thankful no one else was caught up in it badly and that I should recover mostly from the accident.
I don't know why they grouped sessions by engine size instead of skill level. I did bump to the "bigger" group. It was like bowling pins out there which normally I'm patient with but sometimes can cause unexpected chain reactions.
sorry to hear bout your crash steve, sounds like you got pretty fucked up.you'll be back racing as soon as you feel up to it.its a bug, it keeps on biting you,you cant kill it.see you at gateway later in the year.
hmmm.
Listen to this.
First session friday, Fisrt lap out, Turn 5 (the 1st gear hairpin), as i turn in, some yahoo comes flying past me on the inside about 90mph, both tires locked up, across the track and straight into the gravel trap !! missed me by about 2 inches
I guess he wanted to try to break the track record on his first lap.
I went over to his pits later and asked, First time here "yep", first session out "yep", first lap "yep". I just shaked my head and walked away.
Apearently his brother was out on the bike when you got taken out. Sounded like he tried to get on the inside of you going up the hill into to 4. (not a good place to pass) They said he was definitly being the aggressor.
Man i felt bad for the guy (didnt know it was you) that got taken out and brought to the hospital.
I thought that track would be a safe place to race, because its so wide. Theres lots of room for error, but man there were a lot of crashes thou.
Theres still so many guys on the board here that i am yet to meet, but are at the same races i am at !!
Holy crap! I can't believe that I was THERE AT BARBER, AND DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT STEVE UNTIL NOW!!! Dude, that sux. Let me know if I can help in any way.
I agree about the practice moronics. Larry Pegram hit me on his Red Bull Ducati. His leathers cost more than my bike, and if he'd wrecked me I'd be done for the year. He DID win that practice... I saw it posted later. >:( I saw several other insane manuvers cause big crashes as well. It was like one in ten guys had taken stupid pills.
K3
FIRST OFF.....
Steve, I'm REALLY SORRY to have posted and forgot to send YOUR Shout Out!!!!!!
I'm praying for you to get a 'connect' on the "bone-stuff" that Super Dave mentioned and have the recovery and confidence to participate again !!!
Much Love and Well Wishes on that!
I totally 'feel you' on the "mistake" of the other rider, and looking at my bike last nite made me think of how 'hard of a hit' there mustve been and why Stu was on the race line (which turned out to be blind for me, (behind another rider) at such a slow pace, (i know that he knows he shouldve moved over to the left (in this case) cuz he genuinely apologized in the emergency room. And i accepted it and apologized to him also. Next i wondered if i shouldve seen a yellow flag because someone mustve seen him sputtering, considering the speed in which our bikes collided... but sometimes you get 'jerks' as if the bike will keep going,.......... I ran out of gas once, in my first race weekend, and so now, im thankful that, at that time, i didnt cause anyone any harm, .....
And thats why, Now i wont try and blame anyone, Because i DONT believe that anyone INTENDED to cause me harm, as I, Myself would quite, rather NOT cause anyone harm, in anyway, surrounding racing, .... I think WE'RE all here to enjoy this "THING"....
whew....
Jeff, You'll be having mail, BIG BROTHER. No words fit. ...Thnks!.......
OMG Steve! I am glad to hear that you are going to recover! That sounds like a real nasty one man! I looked on my cell phone last night for your number to see how you were doing, but couldn't find it.
If you need help with anything let me know. 314-922-5287
65,, Thanks.... Brat1, I remember you well, youre cute, we'll be seein ya soon. Thanks a bunch (thumbs up)..... Hug you back, Kimmie :-*....
Lil' Thorny, "It's ALL GOOD", Baby, it's just a thing that happened, if i can get the bike back together, I'll be at BLKHWK this weekend, I'm SOO Blessed to 1, have had the time to jump, and avoid the collision myself, 2, to have had the "thought" to jump (wait till you see the photo's :o ;D)
(hey, wait, has anyone seen the photo's ??? )
but 3, no part of my person was involved in that "SMACK"...Dude, It HAD to have been
:o L O U D !!! :o ......
This could have easily been muuuuuuucccchh worse..
but,.... i can still ride.... walk, talk, think on my own, taste my favorite foods, go get whatever favorite foods..... IM trying to say, im glad it wasnt worse...
Oh my gosh, that'd be great if you can make it this weekend! I'm so happy for you that you're doing so well!!!!
Hopefully we'll see you Saturday!
Heather

Amy, Tell Christian i dont take verbal hugs! he's gotta wait till he see's me or thet dont count, and lemme call michelle before she starts believing your lying on me ;D......
Peanut, Philly, Donny, Stu....
MAN!!!, i so wanted to run with you guys, you know you gotta look at the other regions and see who the top runners are...You guys were going very well in practice (whenever i seen you) and on early saturday, i had decent grids for two races before the rain and i did get to mix it up with you guys a bit, and it was sweet! .... later in the day i was in the second wave as i post entered ss and that turned out to be the first race on sunday with me also in the second wave, but i was looking forward to the later races on sunday i was to be back in the first wave..
Trophy_Gal & Trophy_Guy, BIG SHOUT OUT and Much Thanks (thumbs up)...preciate it... :) ;)

Steve, Todd told me of your accident late last night...OMG!
And ScottR1 called me today about it.
I cannot find your phone# (you know how I do ::) ) so please email me your phone # as soon as you get a chance.
I am sorry for what happened to you, but I am glad you didn't get hurt worse!
Ike, glad your OK after you superman'd down the straightawy, and sorry the photo of it was siezed & 'classified' by CCS...heard it was the photo of the decade :D
-E-
Ike, are you coming up to Blackhawk for some R&R this weekend?
I've heard that you were way up there, but I don't remember your list of injuries...except for like the need for some skin grafts?
You need bone healin' too?
Thanks Speedie, and i may have to threaten CCS if i dont get my crash page fame!... >:( ;D
but i know that some form of it will be released....
Man, Did I leep for the sky!!! :D

Naw suh, teech.....
my right hand has rash to the muscle from thumb to fore finger (or the fatty part between the thumb and first finger) as my landing was flat, face down, still sliding forward with my right hand to my side or just under my body, and my left knee has a nickel sized whole drug thru the skin, revealin my knee cap, (the skin on the knee is pretty thick (ive learned) it's about 1/2 inch....and a quarter sized ring around it where it didnt scrape through...
so, no, all i got is a pretty stiff neck and a couple sores (good sores, but just surface) (they xray'd and scanned head, neck, knee and hand).....
RR sounds pretty good to my neck!!!... it's stiff and sore, but i didnt take an pain pills yet today (testing)
tho im ready....
I wanna race tho, ANYONE wanna loan me a bike for Three races.... I'll just bring mah stuff, just incase.. ;) :)
you all are so nice to lil ole mey... 8)
Christian has a big wheel that I am sure he would let you ride, that way if you fell off you would not hurt yourself. As for the "Little Ike" nickname, went over like a charm. He no longer likes the name Christian, he told his teachers and grandpa to call him "Little Ike" from now on because that is his new name. Thank you very much. My four years of raising him and now he decides he likes your name better.
;D
THat's !!!! MY Man !!!

Gotta have role models...
And stay away from the big wheel...those things will kill you. ;D
Quoteand my left knee has a nickel sized whole drug thru the skin, revealin my knee cap, (the skin on the knee is pretty thick (ive learned) it's about 1/2 inch....and a quarter sized ring around it where it didnt scrape through...
Yeouch. I had the skin removed from over my left kneecap back several years ago (street riding in jeans, oops ::)). The hole in mine was about half-dollar sized. They just put four stitches in it to draw the skin together. I was so afraid of bending my knee for a long time; thought I'd split it open again!
Heel up fast Ike!
QuoteAnd stay away from the big wheel...those things will kill you. ;D
They're fun to "back in" to the corners with that lever though! ;D

Ouch... I got a hole on my left knee this year, about 1 inch in diameter. Didn't bleed, the skin were all burnt through. Plus there was a 1/2 inch split next to the hole. I was told to get stitches for the split, and graph for the hole. Well I didn't. So 6 months later I have a pink/red cyst growing about 1/3 inch above skin level. Plus it keeps peeling and really really easily irratable. I am being told I need to go have it removed and skin graphed to fix it.
On a better note, my little finger which was almost grounded down at Roebling is growing nicely, everything including the nail is almost back to normal, expect for the color and the bent :D
The moral, get it fixed fast, be a jacka$$ like me and not do it, then end up with "ewwwww's" all over your body :)
thanks all for the emails and well wished here...its hard to respond to them all 1 handed and between pain waves lol so i'm using this as a 1 type place to respond.

oh yeah ike when i was there i heard you came there so i was going to hunt you down but they wouldnt give m a wheelchair!
Steve, sorry to hear about the crash, being taken out especially sucks. I hope you make a complete recovery despite what they say and hope to see you out there sometime.
Damn Steve. I think I saw your crash. Did you go down in the fast blind right kink at the top of the hill? Were three bikes involved? Did you maybe go under me in the first carousell just before it happened? I had just come out of the pits on cold tires and was riding the high line to stay out of the way. Three bikes went under me. At the top of the hill the third bike went under the other two. There was contact, then all three bikes went straight. I remember that the guy in the middle somehow got sat up by the contact and rode off the track sitting bolt upright with his hands over his head.
This was an ugly crash. From my vantage point I saw it coming. The third guy was diving into a closing door. and I knew what was going to happen the moment he made his decision. I had my hand up before the bikes even left the track, and the corner workers were literally waving the red flag before all the pieces fell back to earth. I went back and told my partner Steviebee about it. He later said that he heard it was the guy on the Raptor who caused the mess.
There are certain places I would never try to pass, and that's one of them.
Ike,
I have a F4 I'm selling, just in case you need it! :P Mixing it up a bit was fun, you passed me back 1 time after I had gone pass & I was thinking, who is this guy?! :D Good time even if it was brief.
Steve, sorry to hear about your crash. Normally having Ex & Am in the same group hasn't been a big deal, but with the new track and all, guys were all over the place. I personally like practicing with the EX's when possible. Maybe something should have been said at lunchtime about breaking the groups?
Heal quick!
hey Chris,
Yes, you just described it to a T...that was me flying and dragging along the ground like a rag doll.
I was closing up on the "slow" guy in that group...going to get him on the brakes into the hairpin since like you said it is a blind area before there (hillcrest) and most did not have an effective line through there yet. As soon as i saw the other guy blazing through I could see it coming also...but it was too late.
Cary - I'm posting everything here since its hard to type 1 handed. Call if you want to talk about it :)
QuoteIke,

Yeah, All battles are good, I wasnt sure who was who, but i was enjoying it!!! my times were getting better slowly, had gotten into the 39's and trying to make those consistant..... but for me, generally, i'd say it was a fairly safe weekend, of all the blind turns and all the new people to the track, I'll give us all credit for trying to keep it a safe weekend, just a couple of sittuations....
But I do also wanna give a shout out to all of the other minor falls that went on over the weekend, from friday to sunday, there were a bit more people who fell, and I just wanna step out and say that if there were any small or nagging injuries or other big ones we may not have heard about, and or some, like me, who may have damaged a bike beyound ther budget or something, like K3 blew his motor,
...... just a shout out of a well wish... Hurry Back to those.....
Chef
Oh, bout the f4......
I'm thinking... ;) ... If everyone here who wishes me well......
:)
you know, maybe,... could find it in their hearts..
just to maybe... instead of ggoing out and buying a get well card, could, maybe just send.. to me, maye .. lessay... five or ten bucks.....
like a get well Ike fund, i probably wouldnt turn down, like, lessay two dollar fifty .....
;)
think about it, .....
Thanks Peanut, I'll have to see (again) what kinda #'s i can come up with, I just "sweated" to get that one back together... but i wont put mself through that convo.... maybe i'll be intouch..

It's tough when you have that moment where you know exactly what's going to happen, yet you're powerless to change it. I winced so hard the moment before Steve's crash that my contacts nearly popped out. I had told Steviebee after Steve's crash that it was the worst thing I'd seen in 15 years of corner working and five years of racing. Then it seemed like the track was green again in only a few minutes, and I wondered if things could have been as bad as I had thought they were. I guess things WERE as bad as I thought. Sorry Steve...
Then the next day I saw Ike's crash, which was a 15 on a scale of 1-10. Sorry Steve, but the hang time on Ike's crash put it into a class by itself.
