Sorry haven't posted in awhile.  Been busy up at the hospital.  Adam is still in ICU.  The bile duct is still not draining fluid the correct way, so they might have to go in and put in a stent, but they are going to wait until tomorrow and see how the CT scan goes.  Once they get the bile duct to drain correctly, he will be free and clear and on his way to recovery.  He pulled out the respiratory tube by himself yesterday (at least he has fight in him) so he is breathing on his own and that all seems to be going well.  It is just his darn bile duct that is giving him a little run for his money.  Other than that, they doctors are hoping to have him to rehab in two weeks.  I will keep you posted with any new info, other than that it is a just wait and see process right now.

Thanks for asking about him.  I will keep you updated the best I can.

Typical Fehrman child.  I will admit.  We do take after our father.

I went to see Adam Tuesday afternoon and when he woke up enough to see his uncle, (me), I told him how this message board was lite up with concerns and best wishes. he smiled at me as he understood the good wishes coming from the racing community.
As to his dad being grouchy! I don't think Bill is grouchy at all................ok, maybe a little!

Hello all.  Went up to see Adam last night and he was doing much better.  He has a CT scan set up for this morning so we will see how things are going.  He is more alert and talking more.  Right now once again we are just at a waiting point, but no news is good news and his spirits are up so that is all that matters.

Good luck to everyone who is going to Barber this weekend.  Be safe and have fun.

Just wanted to give you all an update.  Adam had a bad day on Friday which consisted of his liver starting to bleed again, so they took him in for surgery and after surgery decided that it would be best to fly him out to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.  Since he has been there he has undergone another surgery and today he will be going in for his second surgery sometime this afternoon.  As for Saturday he was stable and his vitals were awesome for once.  He looked good yesterday but they once again wanted to keep him sedated until surgery today to give his body time to de-stress.  They are hoping to just go in today, take the packing out, and sew him up and then onto recovery, but we will have to wait and see if anything has changed since Saturday.  I will make a post after surgery today.

That certainly was not the news I was hoping to hear.  Our prayers go out to him.

Amy, let us know when he can have visitors and what room he'll be in. I'm sure there are plenty of us here in Milwaukee who could stop in for a visit.

I will let everyone know when he can have visitors.  That would be great and very much appreciated for people to go and visit him so that he is not all by himself in a strange place.  I know Sara and Sam will be visiting him and so will Phil & Marianne so that will help out, but I am sure he could use the extra support.

That @#$%^&* blows.  This summer seems to be making me quite a bit more religious than I used to be.
Hang in there Amy.  Love to the family from me...

Just received a call from dad.  Adam is out of surgery.  They took him to surgery early due to an opening in the schedule.  The were not able to close his stomach due to fluid retention so he will have to go back for another surgery on Wednesday.  They are going to put him in a paralized state to keep him from moving and to let his body heal.  He will be in ICU for about 7-10 more days, 5 at the least and then they will go from there.  Therefore, it will be a week or a little more before he can have visitors.  I will let everyone know.  The doctors that did the surgery were very pleased with the way things went today.

Got some encouraging news today, but that does not mean that there will not be set backs again.  It looks as if they are going to go in tomorrow and do Adam's final surgery.  They are working on wheaning him off the respirator over the next couple of days, so hopefully by this weekend he will be able to be breathing all on his own.  Everything else looks good and his vitals are good.  They have cut his medication in half so he is awake and knows that he is in Milwaukee now instead of Appleton.  I will let you know how surgery goes tomorrow.

Adam's surgery today went well.  They were still not able to close his abdomen so he will go back in for another surgery on Friday.  They are also working on wheaning him off the respirator so hopefully by the weekend he will be breathing all on his own.  Dad is there with him today so I should know more later this afternoon.

Just spoke with dad and Adam is on his way to recovery.  They have decided not to do any more surgery for the time being.  They have put in a dissolvable mesh that new skin will grow over to close up the abdomen.  He will have a hernia that will need to be repaired 6 months to a year from now which then they will go in and take out the huge scar that he will have from the new skin and then they will reattach the skin to make a smaller scar.  He is being taken off the the respirator tomorrow, and the doctor said that Adam is now on his way to recovery.  (For once good news).  The doctor's foresee no more problems.  Adam is awake and knows that he is in Milwaukee.  His temp is completely gone for the first time in 3-1/2 weeks.  He has also started working with a physical therapist to start building up his strength again.  They are hoping by this weekend to have him out of SICU and into his own room.

Thanks again for everyones support.  Without you all we would have never gotten through this.  You kept the whole family positive and made us think only good thoughts.  Thanks for everyones prayers as I know God must have been listening.  I cannot express how much you all have done for me and my family with your words of encouragement.  I and my family greatly appreciate it.  Thanks again to each and every one of you.

Amy

They moved Adam out of SICU and into his own room.  If anyone would like to go and visit him he is located at 2 North Tower - Room 5.
