I have been looking into making my bike Superbike and Thunderbike legal, mainly to get the chance to race in FUSA Thunderbike. I have a frame that was built by BCM in NH as a very limited production kit. I can obtain a certificate of vin or an mso from BCM. Will this make me legal? The bike was raced legally in AMA Pro Thunder when it was first built, and was deemed legal for that class. Am I legal if I get this certificate from BCM? Help.
By the way...before you give me CCS info, Dawn...I emailed Kevin Elliott weeks ago and got no response. Thanks again in advance.
The key to CCS seems to be to CALL. Try calling Kevin. They might just make it MW SB legal, as well as Thunderbike. (Isn't there a P/W ratio limit? or is that just FUSA TB?)
If I get a chance, I'll try Monday. I REALLY wanna ride Thunderbike instead of Supertwins. Much more competitive...I'm tired of finishing lonely 4th places every time out. Boring.
Just noticed the edit. I need to get the bike weighed, cuz I'm VERY close on the hp/wt ratio (3.5). I can ride MW GP and GTU if I want to ride with the 600's as it is. I'd rather ride against the guys I already race against in GT Lights and LW GP. I guess I can put it on a scale, one end at a time to weigh it, right?
Byran, if your bike weighs and has Hp that you think your 10hp over the thunderbike limit. I'm over ten 10 hp under the limit. I'm not sure about thunderbike but in superbike your bike has to be a production machine made for the Roads of the US avalable on the retail market. Your bikes not even close. Chris Boy built a Bimota Montra that will barly make the HP to weight ratio. He did that to be able to race thumberbike and superbike without any question. You could probably get a pre FE SS frame pretty cheap and be done with it. I'll tell you first hand the SS frame needs alot of attention to work like our bikes work now
I think BCM actually built these kits for the street too. That's what I'm trying to find out. My biggest concern isn't SB, it's Thunderbike really. I need to put it on a scale. Right now I think I'm at 3.26 ratio, based on the bike weighing 300 lbs even. I just wanna ride in FUSA for at least one class, especially next year, with this bike since who knows when I'll be able to afford a 1000.
If I can't be made legal, I'm gonna try riding like GT Lights, GTU, GTO, LW GP, MW GP, Unlimited GP, and Supertwins next year, budget affording, to try for an assigned number for 2005. ;) I would actually stand a bit of a chance against the bigger bikes at Jennings, but no shot at Moroso and Homestead of getting near the top 5. Either way, it's all about points to get that number.
Dude you know I like you but your nuts!!!!!!! you don't need to ride that many classes to get enough combined points for a top ten. Eric Malard, Bob Cole, and Alex who is 2nd all placed in the top ten only ride the ltw classes. I'm in the top 3 only riding 3 races a weekend. If you rode GT lights, Lightweight GP, Supertwins, and Middle weight GP that should be enough, if you get on the box every race and make every race weekend. Your biggest problem is going to be your motor. That bike will break again you need to check the valve clearance at least every other weekend. If you rode 5 to 6 race a weekend that motors going to pop really fast. If it were only putting out 80 - 85 hp it might last longer but its way more radical than that and you ride the #$it out of it.
As far as BCM making that for the road, that still wouldn't count. There are exact copies of 996 frames out there made by Pure-Bond and other companies, but the are exact copies and are FIA for world superbike. Your frame is a one-off mule which isn't even close to resembling a SS frame. I wouldn't protest you but there a a few guys out there that would. Given you article in Roadracing world I would think that you would run by the book. No exceptions or special favors. If I had put myself out there I know I would.
Just buy an SS frame and you can run 5 classes a weekend and be competitive. It can't cost that much, I think you could pick up one for $500 with a title. You could transfer everything over, run it over to GMD and you can run with me and Steve all next year with white plates.
Call me tomorrow if you want to talk I dont what you to take something the wrong way.
I definitely don't plan on running a class unless I'm deemed legal ahead of time, that's for sure. A stock frame will be more like $1000, but I don't plan on getting one for it. The Middleweight GP is a cool race, and since there are usually so few bikes in the AM version, there is a chance of getting on the box. However, next year with the white plates, no chance of it happening except at Jennings maybe...lol. It's all just speculation right now...depends on how much jing I can make. I did really well at this dealership before, but it's very draining thanks to a LOT of hours. If I don't work 'em, I don't make all the money...lol. I could also throw GTU in there and run 5 classes and be all set probably for top 10 in overall points if I make every round. I have to do the valves every four weekends or so at the most, and hopefully it will stay together for a long time for me this go around. Planning on doing the valves after next round probably. At least I've learned a lot about motors this year... ;)
I'll probably call ya tomorrow anyways to say hey.
I wouldnt run that many classes either Bryan Remember how tired you dsaid you where at the last round? I race four classes but i am in a lil bit better shape i am very use to the heat from my motox and i work outside everyday. If you plan on running that many classes then hit the Gym. Im not trying to sound like a dick but after my first three races i was ready for more and you sounded like you were about to faint. Just my advice, i only plan on running four classes again next year.
You are 100% right Steve. I've already started getting my fat arse back in shape...lol. I need to be in better shape for the Team Challenge at Daytona anyways. It's gonna be a long road, though, cuz I'm WAY out of shape still.
Bryan,
There are two frames for sale on the Ducati index one for 750 and one for 500, I think Chris has one laying around too. They are not 1000 as you think they are. Remenber you dont need to title the frame and it has to be an old style frame for you to use the carbs.
Right..then add rearsets, spare pegs for those, and I'll wind up sinking much more into this bike than I really want to. Plus, I still need a rear shock, especially with a heavier frame. Looks like I'm just gonna stick with the same classes and add MW GP and GTU to the schedule. Sorry I didn't call ya today, was busy getting settled in at the new dealership.
I'm going to be racing a 900 ss next year and I was wondering what classes yours is competitive in?I was thinking super twins, gt lights and thunderbike.I dont know if it is legal for middle weight sportsman or not.Did you say you like the middle weight superbike? you must not race mid atlantic. ;D
It is competitive in GT Lights, Lightweight GP, and if you run stock frame and motor, lightweight superbike and lightweight SS too. Also Thunderbike. Pretty down on power in Supertwins most of the time, as those guys on the 996's and fast RC51's run similar lap times to the 750's and 1000's when they race in hwt classes. You will have a great time in the lightweight classes with it! :D
