This is taken from an email I received earlier today. Please help and send an email in support of AMP.
You may see this duplicated on other boards as I'm trying to get the word out.
TIA,
Patrick
Last year the Arizona Motorsports Park invested over $6 million to develop a safe place to run cars and provide high performance driver education, right next to Luke Air Force Base.
It is a privately owned and financed track that is not open to the general public. Instead, only car clubs, classic car owners, motorcycle clubs, automobile companies and other car enthusiasts - people just like yourself - rent it for private use.
The Arizona Motorsports Park is a world-class facility that's turned into a great addition for the West Valley. No more homes near Luke Air Force Base. And, people are coming from all over the West Valley and Arizona to use the facility, which means more spending at local stores, hotels and restaurants.
But some residents living over one mile from the site are now trying to shut us down because they can hear noise some days of the week. They have hired high-powered lawyers and are even asking for our permit to be revoked. In fact, Maricopa County has scheduled a hearing to consider doing just this on July 31st.
Let us first say this: we can address these issues. But we're going to need your help too. So far, elected officials have only heard from these residents and lawyers.
They need to hear from you too. Soon. The hearing is only days away.
They need to hear that the Arizona Motorsports Park is important to you .. . and that they should support the facility.
Please take just a moment to email Maricopa County Supervisor Max Wilson today. Leave a message that you support the Arizona Motorsports Park. With your email we can make sure that you and our many users have the chance to enjoy this excellent addition to the West Valley for many years to come.

P.S. Email just a quick message to encourage support of the Arizona Motorsports Park! Thank you for help and support!
I actually hope to visit AMP November. :(
I sent an e-mail.
Thanks for the heads up, Patrick. I'd hate to see such a fun and safe track get pulled from us! Please email me if a town meeting is scheduled.

Here's my letter I just sent:
Dear Mr. Wilson,
I am a motorcycle enthusiast living in Phoenix who uses and supports the existence of Arizona Motorsports Park (AMP). It has come to my attention that there is resistance building against AMP from people living in the vicinity of the track. I feel it would be a detriment to the valley to have this race track closed because of the opinion of a few. When asked what I like about living in Phoenix, after responding about the great weather, abundance of outdoor activities and natural beauty, I end with the statement "and since AMP has opened, I enjoy living here even more".
Without comparing the relatively quiet noise generated by cars and motorcycles using the track to F16's during full afterburner take-offs at Luke Air Force Base, I am sure an acceptable solution can be agreed upon to please all parties involved. Since the motor traffic is close to the ground, a sound break such as a wall or line of trees or shrubs could be employed to alleviate most all of the noise, if the problem actually exists. In any event, I would be very disappointed if I could no longer use the AMP facility.
When reviewing this subject, please keep in mind that there are many current and future enthusiasts like myself who appreciate the opportunity to use Arizona Motorsports Park.
Sincerely,
Gary Milcheck

Great email Gary, hopefully a compromise can take place, I agree... the jet noise from the F-16's is louder than anything else that runs out there (at least when we run). From my understanding, there is a council meeting to put it to a vote July 31st. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend, I'm heading up to Vegas for the race that morning. Keep your fingers crossed...
Just wanted to follow-up on this thread. Apparently during the permit discussions the AMP owners said only "street legal" vehicles would be on the track. It's my understanding that this is the crux of the argument for the groups trying to get AMP's permit revoked or amended. The below information is from an e-mail from someone at the Board of Supervisors office.

Mr. Bollman,
Yes, there is a public meeting to be held tomorrow at 9:30 at 205 W. Jefferson in the Supervisors Auditorium.
Tomorrow Staff will ask the Commission to review the case. It will be put on the August 14th agenda, but the owner of the track has apparently asked for it to be continued to September. I believe the purpose of tomorrow's meeting is to show the Commission the video of the December 2001 Board of Supervisors meeting which shows that the representative clearly misrepresented the facility tot he BOS which resulted in their approval of the permit.
You can view this information on our website:
www.maricopa.gov
under Planning, then go to the meetings area for P&Z.
If you need further assistance, I'll be glad to help.
thanks,
Lynn

If you can attend, please do. It would be a shame for this track to be shutdown for trackdays . . . it's looking like CCS racing there is completely out of the question.
After reading the Formal Meeting Agenda, I know why I won't ever be a politician!
Is anyone going to the meeting to represent us?
I went to the meeting this morning . . . quite interesting. They played the tape in question and whoever at the time was representing Mr. Malone's interests clearly stated it was just for "street legal" vehicles and that it was primarily just a playground for him . . . although nothing in the written documents say this or discuss what type of vehicles will be out there.
The issue comes down to noise. Today the commission agreed with Malone's new attorneys that a sound study should be done with the current schedule and come back in December and figure things out then. In the end, I think they will come up with some type of sound restriction.
What I'm hoping will happen is that they will be required to put up some type of sound barrier and be done with it.
I think Malone's plans changed from just having this track for him and his friends and now he kind of wants to open it up to SCCA and hopefully CCS events, etc. Unfortunately, in the stipulations it currently says not open to the public and can only have 200 people there at a time. So he certainly must not have had SCCA racing in mind at the time.
So I think he's going to have to do a lot to keep the noise down and also amend the original documents so that more people can be out on the property.
Mark and Ron from Team Arizona were there and they said they've measured the decibals when we're out there and it's below 86 or 82 . . . or something like that . . . pretty low.
I sounded as if the Board is going to be mostly sensible, we'll see what the sound level tests produce.
Hopefully the final decision will end up with some sort of sound level requirements, rather than getting stuck with "street legal".
Mark
