Title: Let's say you're thinking about trading bikes...
Post by: tigerblade on July 15, 2003, 11:42:13 AM
I could put my bike back into street form and other than the safety-wire provisions, you probably wouldn't be able to tell it was ever a racebike.  What's the best thing to try:

1) Put it back to street, sell race items (bodywork, shock. etc.) separately

2) Try to sell as a racebike, sell street items separately

If I turn it back to street, I would tell the purchaser that it was raced a few times if asked (a conscience is a terrible thing to have).

Not sure if I'm going down this path yet, but I'm thinking about it...

So Kris....

If you sell this bike, what kind of bike will you get?

Hmm...

Racers are cheap.  You'll probably get more for it if you change it back to stock, sell it to a "civilian" then sell the race goodies separately.

Look on Ebay, race bikes go for way less.  I'm definitely converting my FZR back to street when I sell it.  The consience is definitely a problem  8)  I plan to mention that mine was raced too.

Personally...

I would part out the entire thing on Ebay...

Frame with a clean title is GOLD..
Running motor GOLD...
Clean Steet Plastic GOLD...
Straight forks... you guessed it, GOLD!

I have been tempted to buy a bike, just to sell it in pieces on ebay, but lack of time won't allow that.

OK Kris.....

I have to ask....

This talk about selling your RC - Will you get a different bike to put on the track? or, are you giving up that idea?

YES! You should rid yourself of the fat wallowy pig of an RC. In fact, I think you should trade it to the photo guy for a few nice photos.  ::)

Seriously, my plan was to get a backup bike that might see limited street duty, of course I have no money right now. :(

If I did sell the RC, it would be replaced by another racebike.   ;)

What would replace it?  If I told you it wouldn't be a secret!    ;D  8)

I'd love to keep the RC as a streetbike and just add a new racebike, but that probably can't happen right now.

He's gonna get an sv, then he won't have anymore excuses when I beat him.  Even though he's already got 50 hp on me.

You don't know what I'm gonna get.  Maybe an SV, maybe not...   :P

A Goldwing is only legal for unlimited supersport. You'll want to enter more classes than that!  ;D

I agree with the others. Re-street the race bike, sell it and sell the race parts.
I am doing exactly that with F3. I can get $3000 + for the F3 as a street bike locally. Then toss in the extra $ for race parts and spares. I have seen F3 racebikes with spares sit at $2500 with no bites on the bike.

But how cool would it be to drop off sandwiches from my hard luggage for the cornerworkers on the cool down lap?
