Title: Why no Heartland Park races?
Post by: Gixxer124 on June 08, 2002, 05:09:03 PM
Other than the fact that most racers seem to be from the Illinois, Wisconsin area, why no Topeka races this year? It is the Midwest Region? Talk to me!

The track sucked, we rode practice and loaded up and went home. I suppose that CCS got alot of complaints and with the opening of Mid America they chose to drop it from the schedule.

I heard Heartland Park was all tar snakes. I dunno. I never got a chance to race there. Personally I'd rather race there than Gateway if I had to choose. Something about racing in a circle jerk track's infield that bothers me. If I'm going to be racing right next to walls, I'd rather do it in my old Formula Ford.

And Blackhawk is so great that we race there 5 times a season?

Or, is it because it's a left hand track like Gateway?(that nobody seems to like either) Hallett is a left hand track also. I heard a rumor that there going to run it backwards in Aug. Whats up with that? I happen to like turning left.

Well I know one issue is the fact the turn out for a three region event was LOW. Other is the fact it uses the drag strip for the front straight, not a problem when it was built but now with VHT it is unridable in the rain.

Heartland Park Topeka has traditionally been very proud of itself.  The price is very high and for each additional thing that you want (bathrooms, etc.) you pay more.

Track opened in 1989.  Hosted AMA Superbike events in 1989, 1990, and 1991.  WERA had a FUSA event there in 1990.

Three weeks prior to the AMA National in 1991, the track wanted to cancel the event.

The track has changed hands a few times, and as a result, the surface has deteriorated.  Drag racing makes them lots of money.  They could care less about everyone else.
