Title: Fixed (again)...
Post by: MightyDuc Racing on May 18, 2003, 06:27:18 PM
Sorry I haven't been around this weekend.  I was busy learning the fine arts of bondo, JB Weld, and fiberglass, as well as how to seat the rings on a piston into the cylinder (thanks Butch!).  The bike, as of ten minutes ago, is ready to race.  I just need to clean it up and change my shagged tires.  Hooray...again. ;D

Gosh Bryan:

You've had some terrible luck with that bike that as I was reading your post I was thinging to myself....  "I really hope it stays together this time."

There were some other thoughts in there about Ducati's, but I will keep them to myself since you probably heard them all already.   ;D

Dawn   ;)

Yeah, my new goal this season is to have a weekend where I just go ride the bike, then come home and change the oil, then go back and change tires and race again. ;D  I think I have everything pretty much sorted out now, and MAN have I learned ALOT!  Been a good thing really (minus the money for the motor) cuz I know so much more about the mechanical side now.  I have a lot of new oddball tools that I was forced to get, etc, etc.  So I'm gonna look at it all as one gigantic learning experience.  The blown motor, the crash while getting a bit overzealous going for the lead, learning to slide more than ever before cuz of oil on the rear tire, and so on and so forth.  Now I'm ready to win some races!!! ;)

I was in "fix it up again" mode myself this weekend, took the upper and lower triple clamps off and straightened them back up. If there was some salt on them I would have mistaken them as pretzels :o Gottem' straight though and re-greased the stearing stem bearings. Now what.....I really complained when i had too much stuff to do, now the bikes all done and my next race is the 30th. I guess I can re-sticker it AGAIN ;D.

The funny thing about all of this is Mightyduc is getting ready to buy a inline 4 bike to race. He will have to learn all the stuff that goes along with those. Because the ducati is so different everthing he has learned about that bike wont apply to the new one. If you just want to put gas in a bike and go race, get an SV, forget about a honda.  ;D

The inline four won't come until next season (or as soon as money allows...maybe middle of next season...lol).  Some of the things I have learned will go along though.  Things like fork seals and suspension adjustments, etc, etc.  No matter which way I look at it all, I sure am having fun!  And I don't see an SV in my future.  I'll be keeping the Duc to ride in probably one lightweight class once I get on the 600 or 750.  However, it would be a nice little advantage someday if I ever got fast enough to go after the FL region #1 plate, cuz I could race the LTWT stuff for overall points to go with the big bikes. ;D
