The ccs link doesn't work, and the official Las Vegas Motorspeedway denies its existence! Thanks... :)
I heard 2.2 miles, but not 100% sure...
Thanks...I found a reference that states 2.25 and another that states 2.5 miles. I am just surprised that the Las Vegas Motorspeedway web site doesn't even mention that there is a road course. :-/
The CCS lap time sheets listed the length as 2.00 miles, and that's what the average speeds were based on, but that dosen't mean I'll put any faith in it.

The map on Las Vegas Speedways webpage, http://www.lvms.com, says it's 1.8 miles. I think that 1.8 is pretty close just based on laptimes. :)
I think you are quoting the course on the inside of the motorspeedway as it is less than 2 miles. The outside (classic) road course is definately more than 2 miles long. Thanks... ;D
Nope, I'm quoting the facility map on their website - like I said. :)
But, to save you the trouble of looking:

...wether or not the map is accurate is up for grabs. :)
Thanks, Rick...great map! ;D
It's amazing how long the course seems when you're riding your scooter around it looking for your transponder in the dirt. :-/
The Freddie Spencer school, which uses both the inside course and the Classic road course, always quotes the inside course at 1.1 miles and the outside Classic Course that we raced on at 2.2 miles.
That map looks out of date. Notice how the final two turns leading onto the front straight are missing. Perhaps it was 1.8 before it was reconfigured?
Hey, now that you mention it, it does seem to e missing a couple of corners. :'(
12". :o
;D
I've been thinking about average speed and lap times and, if the course is 2.2 miles, I had some unusually fast average speeds even at my lowly pace.
Let's say someone was doing 1:35 - then their average speed was a little over 83mph. Which seems unusually high. For example, that's significantly faster than a good chunk of AMA guys at their last sears point race (and way faster than a couple). Sure, different tracks and all that but, that's just in terms of average speed.
Maybe the big map just has a crappy picture. Either way, I'd be surprised if that extra turn would add nearly half a mile. I would guess something more like an eigth of a mile.
???
This is the classic course I know. I believe it is close to 2 miles. It was redesigned within the last 3 or 4 years.
