Title: What has happened in the last 15 years?
Post by: Lowe119 on October 24, 2017, 06:24:43 PM
I haven't raced in almost 15 years and am looking at getting back in it. Is a second gen sv650s still a competitive bike in the lightweight class? What are people racing in that class?

Yep. LW classes are still dominated by SV's.

Ask about lw 565, old rules in place to make a 400 into a 565. Now you get modern 600's made 35cc smaller and legal for lw classes

I think the first gen SV appears to be very competitive as a superbike as there's quite a data base for what to do.  Second gens don't seem to be so common in the MW even though they are a billion years old.  There's talk that the Yamaha FZ07 is pretty darn strong though.  I did ride a Ninja 650 some years ago, and it was very, very good.  Very accessible area to work on it.
