Does anyone know the age of the oldest ever "rookie" or first timer in the Daytona 200?
Doc
I'll say 50.
Claye Harding was in his late 60's when he went there for the first time in 2012
I'm gonna disagree, Apriliaman, since 63 is the oldest rider, per Eric Kelcher. They only keep track of the oldest and youngest riders, and not the oldest rookie, hence, my question. I'm 53, and trying to make a run at it for March.
I ran last year at 55 and 8 months. Finished 21st after being around 16th at one point.
I think I heard there was a guy in his 60's that qualified as well.

.
Was that your first run at the 200?
Yes. 2016 was the first and only time I raced in the Daytona 200.
2017... will be my second.
.
I will have to try to look you up if I make it there myself......
Eric is wrong I will ask Claye and see how old exactly.
You're confusing Daytona with the Daytona 200. Claye didn't do the 200, just the CCS weekend [as an excuse to drink Jack Daniels if I remember correctly (: ]
Ok the 200 is different.
Get after it guys! I ran it in 2015 and 2016, but I may sit it out for 2017. Spent too much dang money doing it on a Ducati.
My new (to me) R6 has some quick change gear on it, but those side stands are pretty expensive too.
So far, things are moving forward. The bike ran really well at a quick airport test Saturday. I have no quick change stuff, but I am sorta old school anyway. I have run the Team Challenge there as a solo before, and I am approaching the 200 the same way. Qualifying and seeing the checkered flag at the end is all I want out of the deal.

Art Kowitz qualified and raced the 200 last year and was 66 years young. I believe he is the oldest rider to ever race the 200
Thanks! I guess at 53 that I'm just a pup, just a wannabe......

Well compared to "Art the Dart", yes you could say that!
