Title: Tire changing question
Post by: bongoray on May 13, 2003, 04:19:22 PM
Hey guys,

Anyone care to share some tips on breaking the bead on tires? I have a big C-clamp, but I'm having trouble. Any tips would be really helpful!  ;)

I have used a very large bench vise and some small pieces of plywood.

My tip is support the tire guys at the track, one thing less to worry about and it's $20 well spent.

For $69, i think its $69 or $59  you can get a killer bead breaker from JC whitney.

I totally support the guys at the track. But, I was changing my tires at home on my street bike.

I'll check out that JC Whitney lead.

Thanks!

Sorry.  I got a local shop that does street bikes for $20 too.  I guess to me, tires are too important for me to bungle them up. ;D

I have a Harbor Freight Tire changer.  I think the entire setup was like $89.00 for the changer and the Motorcycle adapter.  It works great. While I am at the track and need tires changed I just use the vendor. THis comes in helpful at home and for trackdays where a vendor may not be.  I can change a set of tires in about 1/2 hour (break the bead, remove old tires and put on new ones). It is helpful to have 2nd person to put the new set on.  The bead breaker on it is great and really easy to use.  I have mine mounted to a piece of plywood
