Did I hear it correctly at summit point last weekend that ccs is going to be moving to a different transponder?
What I heard was that Team Challenge will be moving to the AMB transponders. [You know, the one I just sold to a WERA guy?] It will be effective by NJMP Team Challenge - so get out your pocketbooks.
If team is moving over I can only imagine that all classes will be moving shortly, can't imagine having to different systems being used at the same races
Jaysus, I hope not. I like my $80 Westhold. Cheap to own and cheap to repair.
This is straight from Kevin Elliott at Blackhawk a few weeks ago. The AMB unit will be used for the national series races. The Westhold will be used for the CCS / regional races. But, then again, he told me that the "endurance" battery powered unit would be all I ever needed. Then, I was told that if I got the hard-wired unit, I wouldn't need anything else. Hmmm. I sense a theme developing here......

You'll believe anything....
I like the idea of all CCS/ASRA stuff switching to AMB. It's what WERA, CRA, CMRA, MRA, already use. CCS is the only one that holds out on westhold. With AMB you have the ability to get living timing from apps like race monitor as well which is REALLY nice! Yes AMB are more expensive but it's rare there is a weekend with CCS when there is not at least one transponder issue (not a complaint just and observation) but I've run with several other orgs that use AMB without a single issue, repeatedly. Again, not trying to get on a soap box/complain, but rather just my $.02 from my personal experience.

+1
My main concern with switching to AMB is that the current one has been out for awhile. I just fear that a new one will be released very soon.
My main complaint is that we all just bought new transponders last year.
I sold both of my AMB's when I started messing with CCS....Doh....They're kinda' pricey. I sold my old ones for $350 each.
The new AMB with a subscription gives you access to your lap times on My Laps

like the new X2? http://www.mylaps.com/en/x2
Yea - the new X2 - complete with a yearly subscription service cost.
:banghead:
QuoteCurrent (non-X2 transponders) MYLAPS transponders are compatible with the X2 system for timekeeping purposes, but will not benefit from the all-new X2 features.
How many damn features do we need on a scoring transponder really? Other than durability and reliability (both of which goes down when you start putting more and more crap in something) and works everytime it goes through the timing loop, that's it.
Does anyone know if we can we rent the AMB units for team challenge this season or do we have to buy one?
