I saw that Kevin Wiater crashed in turn 1 at BFR this weekend and heard he messed up his hand....Just wanted to see if him and the bike were ok. He took off before I could get the chance to talk to him.
I didnt see the crash because i think it happened behind me, but I was told I might have been the cause of it :wah: So I just want to apologize to him for any part I had in the crash. If any one could shed some light on exactly what happened I'd appreciate it so I can learn my mistakes and avoid making them in the future.
From my point of view, I was hard on the brakes going into one and I saw him out of the corner of my eye coming up the inside. I let off a tad, to try and retain the position and he disappeared from my peripheral. I came into one a little hot because I let off and ran wide towards the edge of the track. I expected him to pass me on the inside but I never saw him. Thats all I know.
If you read this kevin, I'm sorry and I hope that the bike wasnt too damaged and you heal quick!
I appreciate the kind words Carl. Yeah my hand is a bit messed up and my backside took a pretty good shot , swelled up pretty good. I will live , that's part of racing.
I was overtaking someone in to t1 , I was starting to set up, you shot into the picture and I stood the bike up not to hit you , we turned in real late which put me into the marbles and I just got on the throttle to hard. Next thing I know I was fighting the front end swapping around and wham , it threw me off.
I was really looking forward to racing this weekend , I knew there would be lots of fast guys there , I felt I had the speed to run at the front. If anyone has this on video I would really like to see it, sometimes you think it happened one way till you see it for real. My camera turned off when I hit the ground and didn't save the video.
Thanks for reaching out carl , takes a big person to do that , whether you're at fault or not.
Kevin, it was good to see you up and walking around. Hope you heal up quick man! It looked like you were hauling ass out there before going down
I think I got some pics, starting at IMG_114

Not a problem! Glad to hear you are at least relatively ok with no broken bones. From your point of view it sounds like I was at least partially to blame and I'm really sorry about that again. I knew I was coming into the corner hot and I was just trying to make the corner. Thanks for not hitting me tho! You we're definitely running fast and I was trying my best to stick with you. Congrats on your win in GTU by the way! Next time I'm at the track I'll buy you a beer or two
And that sucks about the camera turning off in the crash. I would've really liked to see the video from your point of view. Hope someone comes up with a video. The pictures don't really show what happened before the crash.
Next time I'm just going to try to follow you for a while and learn something before I decide to try and really mix it up with you lol. I'm a first year expert and I know I still have a lot to learn so thanks for being understanding and not too hard on me  I'm doing my best to improve my riding as safely as I can every weekend at the track!

Yea like a bikini. Not enough girls walking around the paddock in bikinis if you ask me  especially on such hot sunny days!
