Title: GPS Lap Timer thread, on a budget
Post by: Romans Eight on September 18, 2012, 11:02:17 PM
I'm looking at purchasing a Lap Timer in a few weeks. I've done some searching on the forum and spent some time on the web. As much as I'd like to..I'm not able to purchase the RacePak, looks pretty sweet though. The Starlane Stealth one may just work out.

If you had a couple hundred to spend on a GPS Lap Timer, what would you purchase, and why?

I went through this trying to decide which lap timer to go with without braking the bank. I ended up buying the GTECH PRO FANATIC. Other than the flimsy mount that comes with it I am pleased with its performance. At $270.00 through Amazon I think its a pretty good bargain.

Looks like that GTECH is primarily for auto's. I'm assuming it works as good for bikes. Price looks appealing compared to the top of line. Thanks for posting Bruce71198!

No...it works fine on the bike. Ironically I found the info for it in a car magazine. Like I said in my previous post, the mount that come with it is flimsy !!

Thanks for the info. I may have a line on a top of the line model, I think pre-owned.

I'd still like to hear of others, preferences, comments, etc.

Thanks for your feedback.

Do you have a smartphone?

I run trackmaster on my Droid with an 10hz external receiver. Its not as nice as the Starlane or Gtech, but I only have $70 invested in it plus the phone. It does everything I want it to do!

I have an external GPS that attaches via Bluetooth to my iTouch.  Haven't put a ton of time into it, but it has worked.  I use the Harry's Lap Timer app.

+1 on TrackMaster, works great.  you can get an old droid phone for nothing these days.
