Just wanted to thank all of the people who have offered good advice, Dustin Boyd/Scotty Ryan/Paul Gray/Brian Hall/Jason Farrell/Andrii/Roy Hefner and many others. Last year I told my family that I'd quit roadracing once I turned 50 or got severely injured. Well on my 50th, I was practicing @ Rd A before the race weekend. At that point I decided that I would hang it up if I stopped progressing. I had turned a 16 @ BHF last year and this year was pretty well stuck @ mid 17"s until the GTU race Sunday morning. Managed 4 laps in the 15's!!!
While I raced pretty badly this weekend, the 15's made my year. So I'll be back in Sept. & next year trying to go even faster. After 7 years, its still way too expensive, time consuming, selfish and dangerous but its' still the most fun you can have with your clothes on! I'm also running most of the AMA dist. 17 enduros -talk about a physical challenge.
See all of you out there!

Keep on racing,at 50 your still a teenager. I'm 65 heading toward 67 and it still put's the biggest smile on my face every time I take the bike on to the track.
Awsome, I'm looking at 50 in a couple years but now that its only 40 I can change my plans !!!! Let me know ahead of time what 60 is so I can plan accordingly. I got back into racing after 9 years off and I do believe I'm having more fun and going faster the older I get !!! Roll on old timers !
F40 guys are now 30's and way to fast.F50/60 for us old farts?
I hope ill still be doing it when I'm fifty. I turn 48 next week or the week after sept 16th ;) And I turned a 1.11.5 this weekend. I can go faster. Its motocross and downhill that kicks my ass but everyone I ride with is 16yo
Congrats on the 1.11.5 Bart! You're killin' it old man ;) I'm gonna do my best to hit the 11's next weekend. Also, congrats on the 1.15's OP! Thats dang quick. 8) Everytime you old farts start talking about age I always get reminded of a story/quote my brother once told me...
A little 6 year old kid goes up to a professional motorcycle racer for an autograph after a race. This is the following conversation.
Kid: When I grow up I want to ride motorcycles just like you!
Pro Racer: Son,... you can't do both.
You guys will never grow old in my book!
I raced for the first time at age 49, now at 55 I'm having a great time racing with and getting to know more and more racers.
I'm not a fast guy but I have improved and really enjoy the mental and physical challenges of being involved in an activity that most folks, young or older, would never consider.
Do it till you can't ...
Whatever reason you can't but do it till you can't!!!!
