Title: Dunlops new 190/60 GPA
Post by: ronaldo9 on January 20, 2012, 03:02:08 PM
Just read dunlop will have a new rear this year. Does anyone know the actual dimensions. Do you think it will have similar performance to the UK Ntec? I will probably try out both pirelli 180/60 and this new dunlop and see what I'm more comfortable on.

Guess no one really cares for this thread but I just wanted to update and say I used the 190/60 gpa at an Absolute track day at NJMP and thought they were simply awesome. The side grip is fantastic especially exiting a corner and seem to wear very well. I have some tearing on the right side but could be suspension related as I did not make any suspension changes just threw them on and rode.

You have lower the rear a bit from what I remember.

I just switched from the Pirelli DOT to the GPA DOT. I'm running a Duc 1000 LW bike.

I had to raise the rear 1mm to compensate for the size difference, Dunlop provided a chart. Mostly because Dunlop doesn't have a 180, only a 190?

I put them on at Homestead, but it's hard to compare because it rained on and off all weekend and the track had very little grip, so I couldn't push.

I then ran them at Roebling, but it was my first time there and again I didn't push the tire very hard.

Ran the same set for 2 days at JGP, and I started to push the tire a bit there. By then they had about 120 laps on them- the front still felt good, as did the rear. I did lose the rear once and I was expecting a little more warning. The Pirelli rear is a little softer construction so it squirms a little, then spins more predictably I think. The Dunlop probably would do the same but not with 120 laps on it! Still I was pleased with the level of grip. The tire definitely feels stiffer than the Pirellis. I would feel comfortable running the front some more, but I have never just changed one tire- for me it's more about confidence and front traction is not something I like to play games with.

I am also trying out the US made Ntec slick on my 749, I have yet to find the limit so I can't compare it to the Euro tire.

I ran 180/60 at CMP last weekend at CMP.  Man!  Is CMP hard on tires!  All I could think about is the dollars shedding off those tires after every race.

The new U.S. tire is much improved front and rear compared to previous years.  The front has benefited the most from improvements.  I still think the UK tire is slightly better, but it may be just what I'm used to.  The new rear needs to have even less psi than before by a couple lb to prevent cold tearing.  Not sure why they went to the 190/60 over the 190/55, but may have something to do with the revised profile.  Makes a big tire even bigger for the 600's.

LOL  I don't think Dunlop has a 180/60. I didn't have that same issues with my tires shredding. I had good wear even after a 36 lap stint in TC. On the 600 I went through 1.5 rears in 7 races, if that makes sense. :)
I asked Paul what difference between the new 190/55 and 190/60 and he said profile and size, the 60 being slightly taller with a different profile.

Ooops!  It was a GP 195/65 slick.

What compound did you use in the TC?

I was using Med+.  I showed my tire to the Dunlop guy and he said it was normal for this track.  It was just rolled/chunked up rubber.  I would say I went through 1 rear in 1/2 track day, 1 practice round, and 8 sprint races on a Ducati 848 on CMP.

In TC we rode a 1000 and used a medium Dunlop American made spec slick. Granted T-man was there and helped with the setup. Lol!
