Title: Daytona RIDERS MEETINGS.. for goodness sakes..
Post by: MELK-MAN on October 19, 2011, 08:50:41 AM
I have been attending races at Daytona for years, but can someone with CCS please give the gentleman that holds the riders meetings a wooden box to stand on while speaking? I really don't think he understands that at the same level as all the other people, his voice pretty much ends after the first few rows of riders. I asked nicely this past weekend, and he blew me off like a bug on his shirt, but of ALL the places everyone should hear what is said.. that is the place. Yes, he did speak up, but that is NOT enough. My hearing is very good (i have always worn ear plugs ! :) ) but it does not work to speak on the same level with that many people.. Then, if he turns his head to address a the riders to the side a bit, you hear nothing. And to make matters worse, once the riders in the middle to back rows stop paying attention as we/they can't hear, they/we/I start talking among ourselves..
SO, pretty please.. with sugar on top.. construct or have present a 1-2' box he can stand on. I'm not sure a chair would have been the safest, but the tech ramps would have been ideal had he given it a shot. Im not talking to you Phil S., your voice carries better but it can still at times be tough.

This has been an issue EVERY YEAR.. this year i was a little more animated about it, and he said "you just want to see me fall" when i asked him to stand on something.. well, that was "nice Greg".. if it happens next time im makin a damn scene. :)
PS: had a blast, and was glad to be back at Daytona. Hope we will be there in march 2012!

I agree, riders meeting was unintelligable. The overall din in the paddock area was unbearable for me, the worst offender being the P.A. announcer blasting over, our Mr. microphone, I think I missed every grid call. The track PA guy was talking during our meeting.  In these conditions the meeting needed to be indoors. Second was generators running all day on unoccupied trailers, (these people appeared to be in the garages). Still big fun all weekend, look forward to racing with CCS again.

for sure. That was pretty friggin anoying to have riders give a few moment speech after a win, only to have a LONG, "attention in the arma pits.. attention in the arma pits".. Goddamn.. wait 15 seconds.

We were parked along the fence overlooking the Int. horseshoe.  the same official that does the riders meeting was flagging riders in on track just after the armco barrier, i just laughed as i saw him getting upset when some riders would ride by him wondering what the heck he was doing in a potential impact area, when he was  flagging them to the left off track .. i said to Ian, "those riders were likely the 75% of riders that couldn't f-in hear what was being said in the riders meeting"..
I also noticed on Sunday someone try to hand him a SMALL bullhorn, he scoffed at that idea.. and again, i was like are you friggin kidding me? is he too cool to use that or something??

The race director in at Blackhawk tried to do the meeting over the PA a couple times this year. Dunno if it was because of how many racers DONT show up for the meeting. Sad thing is some of the ones who DO show up arent even listening anyways. Too busy chatting with their friends, listening to their ipod, working on their pitbike, etc.

he needed a platform and a small bullhorn to be understood.  i got almost to the front row and still didn't hear clearly.(i'm 57 with a short attention span)  i don't know how anyone behind him heard anything. i went and asked questions later on for clarity.  i also had a great time at Daytona and can't wait for the next year schedule to come out!

And if the guy would stand on a platform, and more would hear what the heck he is saying.. he would save himself LOTS of time as more riders wouldn't have to bother him to clarify what he said. Now, I am betting you are one of the few that would have the wisdom to go and ask what he said if they couldn't hear all of an important topic. Most would just leave.
THIS IS DANGEROUS TO ALL RIDERS, especially at a track like Daytona. If there is a safety concern that many don't hear, it can put other riders in danger that DID hear what was said.

Couldn't agree more, why bother having a friggin meeting if 2/3's of the people cant' hear and the guy holding the meeting doesn't care that they can't hear???  I love the CCS racing crowd and the variety of races CCS offers, but their crew really needs a lesson in customer service.  I went to tech twice during the weekend to ask questions and both times was met with uncaring rude responses.

Just my 2 cents. I personally like using a local PA at my riders meetings, as everyone can clearly hear what I'm saying. Plus, by holding the mike, I control what is being discussed! :preachon:

The only time I use a mic is during the awards ceremony. "I've got sunshine...."

you crazy dudes.. i will remember that awards banquet for some time Mark  :thumb:
HD, i honestly was baffled as to why the gentleman refused a small bullhorn after many let him know we could not hear him. It won't happen again if I am there. It will be resolved or shit will hit the proverbial fan! It is just too dangerous for all involved on track to not hear, and it is too simple a problem to solve to ignore.

Henry always has a good riders meeting. Informative and even I can hear what's going on.  :blahblah:

yup. I agree Brian. The thing about the Daytona race is the large number of riders, and the location of the riders meeting.. Some of the riders fill up the tech garage, some are outside, it just DOES NOT WORK (hopefully those in charge are reading ) :)

Yeah Greg,
When I was at the riders meeting @ Daytona, the guys in the back had their own important conversations. It sure made it tough for us who wanted to know what was going on!
