Hi Gang,
I need some opinions on 2 cycle oil. I'm a corner worker for CCS and I also race a 2 stroke kart. I'm hoping you 2 stroke motorcycle racers can give me some ideas on oils to use.
I have been using Red Line, but I am considering another oil. I've had several engines that had problems in the wrist pin area, and the motor let go. Might not be the oil, but I want to make sure I have the best oil possible. I race in the vintage class, and engines are getting hard to find. I did start using some castor with the Red Line when we first noticed some abnormal bearing wear on a tear down.
I talked to someone selling Motul and he really talked like it was the stuff. Better lubrication (3 or 4 times better than Red Line) , etc. Sounded great, but lot's of things sound good form the salesperson. I would like to hear from someone that is using it though. I also talked to some other 2 stroke guys at an event, and several mentioned that Castol was the one to use. I race a McCulloch 91, that turns around 10 grand.
Any opinions would be appreciated on different oils to use.

When I raced Karts I used castor oil (Blenzal sp?). But it can be a pain - messy, and will settle to the bottom of the gas tank.
In my TZ I use Castrol A747 mixed at 30:1.
I don't race a 2-stroke. But, I can tell you that I have been very pleased with the Motul that I use.
Castrol A747 is the best stuff! :)
Castrol A747 is the best. I used it for years and it never let me down. It is pretty exspensive but worth it.
Maxima 927 is another good oil.

MOTUL
ALSO, the stuff to have for oil injection.
I have used Motul 400t, and 800t
with good results in a honda 125 engine.
Also silkolene castorene with no problems.
All good stuff.
I heard the A747 is no longer available?? I thought I may have read that somewhere recently.
The thing is I don't think you can definitively state
that there is a 'best' oil. There are so many on the market and so many work well. It is a matter of preference, choice and your specific application.
The A747 is readily available though most places don't stock it. I was hesitant to use it because of the price and availability but since Yamaha and Honda both reccomend it I decided to try it. I know there are plenty of good oils out there but it's hard to overlook the fact that two oil manufacturers (most likely just distributors, but you get my point) reccomend another brand it has got to have something going for it. With that said, my original 125 logged a lot of race miles using BelRay H1R at 30:1 and my motocross bike has ingested gallons of 50:1 mixed BelRay MC1.
