Judging from what I've seen, the 2010 model year is all about new stickers, at least as far as the Japanese bikes are concerned. I've been hearing industry rumors all through 2009 that there was a behind the scenes agreement in Japan to declare detente until the global economy improves. It appears that those rumors were true...
And it's about time. I might catch a smite or two, but I miss the days where bikes went unchanged for 3 or 4 years (or 15 w/ the FZR lol) Don't get me wrong, more HP/torque/lighter weight is great, but from a club level perspective, it only fuels the debates we see for the need, or lack thereof, in reclassing machines.
Remember the F2? Fantastic bike. Same damn thing for a few years, then they put on better suspenders...next came better brakes and a touch smoother motor. Not some dramatic jump in HP. You could run a 91 F2 vs. a 97 F3, and stay competitive. Now, it seems every one to two years, they bring out major changes, effectively killing the older stuff.
I say hooray for sheisty global economy for once.
That last post makes me laugh. Good or bad the economy is what it is. I actually like taking the old and out classed bikes and making a go at the new and improved stuff. I '91FZR600 is still a good bike and with more time will be even faster. I love riding Marc Miller's 748 and we have seen good results thus far. Should we make rule changes so the old bikes are competitive for podium spots? That wouldn't make sense to kill the market for the new bike if you can buy an old bike and still be competitive. Use the old bike because there is more development info available.
The only thing I ask is give me a place to ride/race without getting in the way. Don't complain about me when you come up on that lapper and it is me and my 19 year old bike- It's what I can afford.
is that the one with the 18" tire
wow....it is amazing how a broken record seems to spin so well.
Soon it will digress back to "whiney SV owners"... :wtf:
I'll be glad when race season starts so this post stops getting rehashed every couple of weeks.
I think we can boil it down to:
(1) The economy sucks.
(2) The 916 is not competitive anymore and Chris Kuhn needs more money.
(3) All SV owners are whiney
(4) Racing is expensive...period
(5) Some guys are gonna race what they have because its what they can afford, some are going to go into hock buying new stuff, some are going to quit.....pick one.

How about lake effect snow? It's lovely outside today. Glad my ultra competitive high horsepower, gargantuan torque monster of a Buell is safely inside for the winter...

That it is. Next up maybe some cheap Marchessini wheels, carbon fuel tank, and lightened subframe. Wanna build any of it Marc? Oh some Brembo brakes might be nice mated to the Brembo MC.
Mark
i've never built a japanese frankinstein sure.we'll call it Rodan. the needle on my FLA thermometer fell of this morning 31 at the house and hassen't warmedup past 45 supposed to get in the20's wed. this has been the coldest dec. here since i moved back from WVA. no records but it's stayed cool to cold all month and jan. is usually the cold month so much for global warming. there's a track day in a couple of weeks thought about riding but not going if it's in the 20's
I rode to work today and wondered why I was so chilled. Got into work, got a hot shower and then watched the morning news telling me it was 32 and watch out for the wind chill factor.
I am keeping an eye on the Homestead track day on the 17th, but I am willing to go to Jennings if you are going.

I offered up my Marchesini Magnesiums for $800 a few months ago, nobody wanted them. So I put em on Ebay. It worked out, I got a higher price there.
What else can we talk about to threadjack K3?
QuoteUm, it's a 996, show some respect whiney SV guy!
we can cut Kuhn a LITTLE slack... I mean in his defense, his 996 is right in the mix with the AM LWSB grids at GIR this year... at least with him on it

You will have to tell me when I call about your suits.
suit"S"??? WOW... I didnt think i lost enough weight for you to make multiple suits out of one! you really ARE good at what you do!
is that a "we need to talk" like you are breaking up with me? Or just a "we need to touch base"
of course if its "we need to talk about me not charging you for the hours of work I did on your suit" then let me go ahead and thank you in advance! :boink:

I'm still waiting for someone to take the original post completely out of context and write a series of 4000 word rants, each motherpucking me for thinking that old graphics deserve a place in this world.

LOL, you so funny.
I made a suit out of the 12 pairs of gloves you sent.
I wish we could go back to decals that look like this. Classic. So much better than the hot pink of the early 90's (F2's) and some of the tribal or flame graphics of a few years ago. Or, am I just showing my age?

Showing your age, <insert dinosaur photo> tribal was cool, neon was trendy, flames classic.

whats really funny is I couldnt find another pair that needs some stitching done... not to worry, I found em!!
so if you run a little short on materials in the groinal region (I dont recall that being on the list of measurements required to do the alterations :wtf:) let me know and I can ship off another pair of gloves to finish up the 2nd suit :ass:
Ooh, I wonder if she will ask you to cut the pinky finger off one of the gloves and send it to her. :lmao:
The interwebs are strong in inclement weather! :lmao:

noted! :thumb:
the Komodo pinky is extra beefy but the old teknic is kinda flimsy... Hey Lexa how bout ya set aside the Teknic pinky and offer it up as contingency for F40? ::)
oh I forgot to mention, if you could do something about the skidmarks on the INSIDE of the suit I would appreciate it. Last trackday at GIR I had a "moment" (or was it a "movement) I got a standing ovation saving the highside. Visualize bike completely off the ground, front end hit hard enough to blow off the front fender. I was staring at my front tire and my knees caught my clip ons keeping me from going over the bars on impact :ahhh:
I imagine there will be an upcharge for that service :err:

Tim....I believe that happened on the race weekend at Gateway in August....I still think it was cool how it tore the fender clean and left two symmetrical ears ziptied to the fork tubes.....
you are correct Mark that was the race weekend! My mistake
yeah if I didnt have a front row seat I wouldnt have believed it. just wish it was on camera!
