AMA sent there license renewal form out and it says moto gt is discontinued and no f 450 class
There isn't much left for them to screw up...
got that right!
they did a good job at screwing up the rest. no qualifying just timed practice and cut the purses so low the factorys probaly will just stay home

Ha, yeah the factories are in it for the purse!!! Do you happen to remeber the purses in 2008 back when everything was so amazing in AMA pro racing?
Ohh and thank god they cut that pile of a series from the big show. It was a neat idea but in its current incarnation it had no business taking up time at a national weekend.
Yeah, I'm with Ben. Purses before were lame. There was a time when there was no purse at all in Supersport.
What will the AMA require for contingency from the manufacturers would have to be the follow up question.
can't say I'm surprised. Seeing the state of the economy and all, I wouldn't be shocked if they suspended the whole damn season for ALL classes.

They didn't do it years before when the economy was bad, so I wouldn't expect that.
Really seems like they have something planned. Maybe they are going to go to a two day format, Saturday & Sunday. Can't say that I have any actual insight at this time.
looks like they will be racing for fun like i do and not for the money!!!
Hey gary if you need a rider for TC i'll be ready.
they are doing saturday and sunday with sunday mirroring saturday

Purses, yeah they're pretty pointless. Factories spend tens of thousands per weekend, it's irrelevant.
However, your motoGT argument is ignorant. DMG is screwing up bad. It's not about how entertaining or competitive the class is, or whether or not it belongs. The issue is that they seem to have no direction. DMG should understand better than anyone that the season does not start at the first race. Pro racing is a business, deals are made years in advance. I personally know one team owner who had a significant amount of time and capital invested in securing sponsorship, bikes, and riders for a 2010 MotoGT program. He can't get that back.
Three months from Daytona and no one knows what the hell is going on. They look ridiculous.
The purse reduction really points to a core issue. The economy is bad. The race tracks actually put up the money for the purse, so there are appearances that AMA Pro Racing is reducing it's track fee to keep the tracks involved...along with the possibility of a two day event.
I liked the Moto-St a lot better than the Gt format. Sure the 600's were a nice addition but it was kinda cool seeing all of the not so common bikes doing real endurance races. The St series wasn't anything more than a TC with an 8 hour year end event.

Holy shit, allow me to retract. I just saw the purse breakdown for Superbike. No money after third??? Say goodbye to the Superbike privateer...

They've been gone for a long, long time. You have to go back to around 1980 for decent purses.
I don't have the data, but I feel like there was still a few grand pretty deep into the Superbike field a few years ago. Not saying the small guys were making anything, but they at least had an opporitunity to get back a little of what they spent. I may be mistaken.

No, you are correct. It was a whole lot deeper, but it should have been better...kind of subjective, yes.
Will AMA Pro Racing place the burden of a lost purse because of the need to have reduced AMA sanction fees (my assumption) upon the manufacturers requirement to have contingency? Will that replace that depth of the purse?
It is at least possible to build a proper superbike under the current American Superbike rules.
Next issue: how will that impact manufacturers' contingency at the club level?
