let's get a poll going to see how much interest there is in having a Unlimited Formula 40 class. The F40 grid isn't that big, we should be able to run it with the 600/750's. Opinions?
i'm in...would love to see this
I would be in if I ever sell my doggone ZX6R.
ok, we got 3......gonna need more than that guys

LOL! It's still just lots and lots of parts.
Didn't F-40 use to be age of bike plus age of rider equalling 40? If so- what happened to that? Sorry if this has been whipped to death in the past, just wondering.

Yes, but that was quite a while ago. 1997 or so? Can't remember. Youngest a rider could be was 35 and race a five year old bike.
Thanks for the info, Dave. I thought I remembered it being that way a long time ago. Low grids being the norm lately, I don't understand why that isn't revisited. I'll be 35 in two weeks. That being said, I'd love to be able to flog the old Duc in F40 class. And I bet there's a few others that feel the same way.
Do you know why there was a shift away from that mindest?

I don't think it attracted a lot of riders in the way F40 in its current form has. I wouldn't recognize how expanding it would necessarily result in more entries in F40.
With the small grids, were you entering unlimited classes?
They all got old and could afford new bikes?

Yeah, my bike has those "desmo" valves, you know...kinda limited to where its allowed. LOL

I'm currently 38...well on my way to 39...I will be there sooner than I would like.

It's allowed in Unlimited. I almost won ULGP on my gay SV1000 in 2007 at Gateway. Definitely not as cool as anything Ducati. Go race, dammit!!! :)

Some very, some not, some nice...
Taht thing is almost as wide as my old airhead.
I think that would be awesome
not too much interest........... I thought there would be more gung-ho Unlimited older guys

Well, unlimited bikes have always been limited because of various expenses first. So, that population is smaller than MW & HW guys and then the LW guys. To exclusive idea for a class.
why couldn't it be run with the F40 and see how many entrants it gets?
From a dollars and cents point of view, it seems that there are more Middleweight bikes out there than Unlimited. If Unlimited machines are used then I would venture to say that the middleweight guys won't even bother try. I would be curious to see how many middleweight riders there are now and how many of them will not race F40 with the inclusion of the Unlimited bike.
Right now for us folks in Florida the F40 race gets a little hairy with what appears to be a higher occurence of red flags. Large field, bigger bikes, to me means more incidents can happen.
I guess though if it an all new class within the F40 group that may be a different story.
Mark
I'm sorry, I didn't clarify. I mean run them at the same time as the F40, just score the Unlimited as a diff class. Maybe start them in the first wave? I dunno just grasping at straws here.... I just really wanted to run F40. I don't think I'm going to have extra coin for another bike. It seemed to me
they had space on the grid for more bikes
lol if it went to bike plus rider age I'd be running around F40 on the cbr I'll hit 38 in Aug 2010 and the 600 is an 03 - that would be a fun way to run the 600 without too much grief
since us forty somethings don't have any sense anyway let's make it a turbo class and give a weight brake for injected NOS bike no extended swing arms but wheelie bars legal. ya come out of the corner and whack 350hp down the straight. and about 295 around daytona that would git us on the speed report for sure.
Are you on your pain meds again Marc?
what you mean again?
Hahahahaha...that's just crazy talk.

Ugh. Combined age here is 60.
That would be awesome

HA! Another one like me! Hmmm...do we need a new thread LOL
I'd do that turbo thing.
F40 Unlimited, absolutely!
