I was thinking about what they were talking about in the riders meeting last month at PBIR and they were talking about possibly bringing back vintage classes for certain weekends. Sounds interesting. Does anyone have any old iron laying around in the garage? I have a '78 Suzuki GS1000 that needs some repair and race prep work but would be fun to try out there. Anyone else got something cool?
What constitutes "vintage"?
I bet that there are a lot of people on this board that think vintage is anything pre-2005.
I've got a vintage bike!
I was using it as a pit bike at last Black Hawk.
This weekend I might put it on the track, at ACC.
Its a 1967 Benelli Wards Riverside.

i don't know what the rules would be with CCS but I think things that are pre 1985 kind of start the "vintage" era i guess. xian, your pic didnt show up or your benelli. darn
AHRMA defines a vintage road racer as pre-1980
I think 25 years was considered vintage. The Vintage classes were closed down with Florida CCS due to lack of participation. The "Limited Schedule" that is proposed would be for maybe three weekends throughout the year. If there are enough people asking for it I think Henry would consider it. I am sure if the racers put effort and money into it Henry would oblige.
I've got some thoughts myself and I have even considered running my 1981 CB750. It will need some work though to be track worthy or competitive.

I would be all over that class. Especially if they have a vintage formula 50.
how would they make the class fair. would there be lightweight and heavyweight? not to say i am very fast but the gs1000 is pretty fast. what would guys with singles and things against guys with big bore four cylinders?
There was a lightweight and heavyweight class. In vintage it really isn't about fairness but the chance to run what we have. I last ran my 1991 FZR600 in 2007 and it yield me a 2007 LW F40 Championship. Funny thing is my Ducati 800 is just as quick as my FZR600. Back in 2004 I would race against the Laverda 1000 of Rudy and 1990 ZX7R of Donny Wright.

Well, it's racing. It's not always fair ever.
Really, you'd want to divide it up for safety. Go through the AHRMA rules once. It's not just by displacement, it's by era too.
Regardless, a two valve per cylinder, air cooled four up to 750cc's can race in Ultralight Superbike and up to 1200cc's for an air cooled four in Thunderbike.
I see. I guess it would be too hard to make it "fair" anyways. Mark, was your FZR600 engine bolted in a 400 frame? I was looking at one a few years ago and i thought I remember the guy doing that. I like FZR's although a I have never ridden any except a 1990 1000.
I think the chances of people getting their vintage bikes out if they have them, are not very good. But we'll just have to wait and see

Isn't 50 considered vintage?
Devin- I think the frame is made of lead whereas the FZR400 frame is aluminium. Bolting the 600 motor into the 400 frame would be considered illegal although it still wouldn't have the advantage in the 400 frame. My FZR400 produces 60rwhp amd the FZR600 produces 100rwhp per the Prieto dyno. The weight is the big part especially within the frame. Cutting the subframe off and building an aluminium piece could save weight but the FZR600 has to run against the likes of Ducati 748, 749, Bimotas and Ducati air-cooled 1000.
I have Don Dechant's old 1988 FZR400 with a 600 motor, flatslides, an R6 front end and a Honda F2 rear wheel. It's my streetbike, believe it or not! The spectators at MotoGP in Indy were doing major doubletakes as they walked past it.
I bet they were. They wondered about the "Frankenbike". LOL. I have also done the R1 front fork swap onto the FZR600, it's made a world of difference. Never did the rear wheel though due to the fact that the rear never spun up even with the 155 Bridgestone slick. My competitiors always made fun of the small bicycle rear tire.
hahahahaha...........i never laughed at the glue ons you've been using

Love those CB 750's.
I have a 1962 Honda CA-95 Baby Dream, corners well for a pogo front end, surely there's a class for the thing?
{kind of a joke}
