Hey all i have searched a couple times and found mixed answeres i am looking to pick up a RS250 but i need to know what class i am allowed to run it in.....i have read since its a production bike in europe that i can run it in LW superbike and LW GP but from i have been reading it seems that i can enter it into the Ultra LW (?)......i am on the wall about this decision as i was gonna build a SV650 but i think running a RS250 would be a heck of alot more fun :D thanks for any answers on this question
Yes you can run it in ULSB.
just ULSB?
or also LW SB & LWGP as well? thanks cowboy
You can run the RS in ANY class CCS has. You can always run up, just not down. You can run it in LWSS as well.
cant run slicks in SS correct? Thanks for the the help Cowboy, i am running a r6 in MW so i will prob just run that 250 in LWSB and LWGP and the ULSB
If your gonna do a 250 - Do a real 250... Just my opinion - But if you are going to race a streetbike - do the SV... If you are going to get a 250 - Unless you are getting a real European Aprillia race bike - You are buying a soft/slow RS streetbike....
I was torn between going this route when I first started in 03' - I went the SV route and am glad I did.... 4 years later I finally got to ride a TZ250.... If your going to have to do regular maintenance on a 2 stroke - You might as well do it on a competitive 2 stroke.....
The Aprillia RS250 is a very good Ultralight Superbike weapon racing against the new kid on the block (SV) and also the Ducati 800. Fernando Ferrera is blazingly fast on one and has done one of the fastest times for that class. Racing up in any other class is allowed but not competitive at the front, but at least mid pack is doable. The downside is the size fo the rider. Bigger folks need bigger bikes or just that very rare skill to ride that type of bike fast.
The Aprillia's maintenance isn't as much as a TZ or Honda but still there is maintenance to be done.

Riding an Aprilia RS250 cup bike will make you a better rider. I raced one in 2000 for a season, you have to learn efficiency on a racetrack because they don't have any torque compared to the SV. If you want to be competitive you must learn to ride smooth, efficient and at the highest corner speed possible to keep the rpm's up or stand to lose everything on corner exit. This in turn will make you faster on ANYTHING you ride. It's amazing how a slower bike will make you faster, but it is the truth. I've raced many bikes in many classes and have held many licenses. I learned more about going fast on a racebike with the little Aprilia than any other bike. However, expect to not like it the first few times you ride it. It handles like a dream...but it is slow. If you get one resist the urge to spend money on it. I didn't change a single component on mine except gearing and adjusting (not changing parts, just adjusting) the existing suspension. After a season I rode another guy's RS250 cup bike (with a lot of $$ into it) and it totally sucked. Unless you really know what you are doing with setup you will just ruin the bike. If you get one you'll get totally frustrated with all the SV's beating you out of the corners UNTIL you learn how to ride it like a 2-stroke and keep up your cornerspeed and rpm's.
I had a rs250 last season. Its soooooo fun to ride, but a nightmare to take care of. If i had a free mechanic i'd totally own another one of these.
thanks to all the advice...i have found one to buy, i already run my r6 in MW so i wouldnt be "racing up" with this bike i just want something fun to play in the LW class, i think i am gonna do the RS250 instead of building a SV based on the fact that it will make me a better on my MW bike (i dont think that a SV will help as much given the fact that you ride a v-twin different than a I-4) also i should be pretty quick on this bike as i only weigh between 150-160lbs so we will see.....thanks again guys
Lightweight for the Aprillia is racing up in class. You will also be surprised what an SV can teach you in corner speed. There are many that can take an SV and run with the 600 of today. Don't underestimate the ability of an SV rider.
i am not underestimating SV's if i was going to build one for LW and still may if i dont get a 250. i was refering more to throttle controll being different from going from a high rev happy R6 to a low rev torquy v-twin VS. going from a SUPER high rev happy 250 to a rev Happy R6  i am running a 2nd more for fun/extra track time and from what alot of people have told me is you cant beat the fun of a 2-stroke race bike :D
Agreed.
