Title: Help with Tire Warmers...
Post by: SV650R on March 14, 2009, 05:44:33 PM
Hey guys.

I am looking to buy a set of tire warmers... And I do not really know what I should be looking for...

I was hoping you guys can offer some advise on which features are good to have... and which brands to stay away from...

I am working with a budget, so I am probably looking for a used set... But I do want to get the nicer stuff I can afford...

I ride an SV650 but I have 120/70R17 front and 180/55R17 rear tires... And I do have hopefully, my last set of street tires: Pilot Powers 2CT

I will be doing a lot of track days and maybe some racing in the future... Any advise welcome..

Regards, Luis

Any warmers made by ChickenHawk are good to go, durable and reliable.

Do you have a generator already?

I only know of one brand (Bickle from Canada) that you can run with a small Honda e1000 generator.

If the generator's size is not a problem..... chickenhawk are a good choice.

By the way, if you haven't bought a generator yet, buy a QUIET one.  Your ears and your neighbors will thank you.

wwodcraft, cap it are also good brands.  one thing I learned the hard way was there are thick tire warmers and thin ones. Thick ones won't fit under the wheel covers, whereas thin ones do. I had to take off my front wheel fenders to get my tire warmers on. It was no big deal to me, but it might be to others

I would support American made brands like Woodcraft. Screw that cheap China crap. I know for a fact that the Chinese brands get imported for $110 and they sell it that crap to you for $330 or more.

Be Americans. Support Americans like your $1 bumper stickers say about the troops.

I have used Try Sox for many years with great success American made and 200 shipped and nobody else can show tire saturation images of how well they claim to work, just my opinion

One very successful racer once told me, you should be able to warm up your tires on the hot lap.

I have used DMP standards for two years and they work great. They are non adjustable
but heat up to 170 degrees and keep it there. They also have digital but are more
of coures. Here is a link to check them out. They are $250 new.Not sure about shipping.

best advise, always unplug warmers prior to removing them from the tire and then hang them up instead of throwing them on the ground.
