Title: Question of ethics
Post by: Eddie#200 on March 27, 2003, 02:27:41 PM
Ok,  I know I'm not the fastest guy out there but I can hold my own with you experts... I just received my CRA license and I'm listed as a NOVICE for 2003.  I filled in the Expert check mark on the form, I got the yellow number anyway...  Should I just run the races and cherry pick or should I tell someone?  ::)

Hey Edgar be quiet about this!  ;D

I would be ashamed to run a yellow plate if I were you. Since I'm not you, I have no problem with being a Novice. ;D ;D ;D See you at MAM?

It wouldn't be cherry picking unless you could run away from the field of novices.
Are you that mush faster than them, or will you be dicing w/ them?
If you'll be dustiing ALL of them, then move up where you belong.
If you'll be mixing it up w/ them...what's the prob?

The amateurs I raced w/ at Gateway (didei, chacherre, fuzner, sdiver, #722) where fast enough not to worry about a non-top-5 expert stepping back and cherrypickin'
It would have just made all of us try to go faster.

You would not be the first one to do it...I have seen a few CRA experts run novice in CCS before. Why not the other way around?

Hey r3card, unfortunately CRA is not a CCS affiliate so there is no Daytona option for CRA racers. It would be real nice if it was. I would love to see a Mid-North-Central or whatever region where we get to race Brainerd, Mid-America, Blackhawk and Road America for a regional championship. The CRA-CCS affiliation has been brought up a few times at CRA, but they don't see any value in it... I guess they are supposed to know what's best

 ;D

I'm guessing that I will do very well.  I practiced with the Experts last season during a CRA weekend being one of the faster Novices.  I had fun running with them...  I was practicing with the Novices and found myself running much faster than they were. I though it was safer to move up to the Expert practice.  I would say that I'm going to have a good chance of being a top finisher as a yellow plate.

I thought you were a top-finisher in amateur last season???  You won a championship, so you already beat the am's....no point in doing it twice.
I would move up where you belong and race your peers :)

If your front-running amateur, you'll be top-10 in expert 8)

Yeah,  top ten...  or top top??

Top top?  ???
I am figuring Gorden, Tez, Kramer, Nichols, King, etc, etc, etc to be filling the front spots...No?
I figure we'll (2002am's/2003ex's) be killing ourselves to get in the 10spot, if we are lucky

QuoteTop top?  ???

I dunno...I don't think I would be top 10 as an expert.  I think I would be first 1/3 though.  I would have a good chance to finish first as a novice.

Whatever you do sits fine w/ me, but you will be an Expert racing against Amateurs :o ....not the fairest scenario, but when was racing ever fair :'(

I think this falls in the white or yellow file. Don't make me bring it back. :-X  Eddie, what classes will you be running at MAM?

Let's see... I do run legal engines.  I guess that would make it more fair because some folks don't.

Are you going to be running the SuperBike engine? ;D

I take it your going to the CRA event?  I don't know yet for classes.  HWSB and MWSS for sure...

IMHO...being a first year novice myelf and still being able to run up near the front leads me to believe that you should be an expert by now.  However... ;D...if you can stay Amateur and live with yourself, all those first place trophies sure would look good to potential sponsors!

Did you see my bike?  I never had a chance :-[  waaaahhhhhh  ;D !
It's all good :)

What I really meant was that some guys hit all the tracks like every other weekend, go to raceschools, got the best stuff, etc...and some guys just show up w/ none of that.
Run what ya brung, and do your best w/ what ya got ...that's what racings all about 8)

Not making the first Blackhawk. (Air Force Reserve weekend :'( ) First race will be @ MAM with CRA. I'll be #424. As for the Superbike engine.... You know how cheap I am. It's still all stock. Just adjusted the valves. Stock suspension and race takeoffs. I did install new fork springs. :o

IMHO, run novice.

Track days and practices are not races...not even close.  Get out there in races and see how you do.  If you indeed are dominating, then move up voluntarily mid-season.

IOW, have your cake and eat it too.

Eddie, admit it.  You fear me.  Stay yellow so you and Kevin can throw sand at each other. ;D
Don't worry.  I'll still be around in 04.
(I'd keep that yellow if I could, and go win AM F40 at Daytona.  Who wouldn't want a national championship?  I'm jealous.  From now on, we call you Lucky Eddie.)

Fear you?   Big guy on a smaller bike?  Chris I look forward to running with real competition this year.  (Just kidding guys!)  What I really mean is if you think you are increasing the level of the playing field by running F40... think again.  Remember it's not only me and Kevin out there... Roger Hendricks will be trying to lap you... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I am Expert for CCS and Novice for CRA... ;)

I'm actually racing Butch's old bike.  We traded for my Ducati SS900FE street bike.  He's really a super guy!  I shipped the entire motor up to Bruce at BCM Ducati in New Hampshire to be rebuilt.  Check out my website gallery for pics of what we saw when we removed the head (no piston left).  It was pretty FUBAR'd.  I'll be ready for the May round at Jennings, most likely.  If not, then we'll see ya at Moroso Memorial weekend.  I'm pretty sure I have Butch talked into racing at Jennings in May if I go.  I guess he'll run Supertwins and F40...it was killing him at Moroso...LOL.  See ya later!

I have Big Elbows!!!!!!

I have never ever had the best bike for the class I was racing in.  If I did, I'd probably get lazy...  Nothing torques off your competition more that getting beat by an enormous guy on a smaller bike.  (Right Edgar?)

I am Expert for CCS and Novice for CRA... ;)

See you next Saturday...

I can't believe you guys are supporting Eddie sandbagging and cherry picking Novices!  I hope you are all friends and joking around.

If it is true and Eddie is gonna stay Novice to win a championship or whatever than yes, your ethics stink.

I dont know any of you but, as a Novice I cant wait to be and Expert.  I can't imagine staying Novice any longer than I have to.

Anyway, I am not trying to do a personal attack.  It is just my .02.

I completely agree... I am having a tough time getting the CRA board to get things straight.  They think I'm still a novice and issued me a yellow plate for this season.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
