FNG here.
So I'm looking at the schedule and wondering who is going, where do you stay (to avoid your bike being stolen) and what races do you plan to enter?
As for me, I confirmed I'm in the amateur class, have never been to CMP (or any other U.S. Track) and have no idea where to stay.
As for races, with an 07 GSXR 750 I plan to enter (Saturday only):
GTO
F-40
H Supersport
So, as asked, any tips one cars to share on the track (surface condition, run-off etc) or good hotels please feel free to expound
I can also use a tow on the 18th!
I always camp there, and they are working on getting some more power int he pits for the Rv's. I'll be outt there Fab 14/15th for a trackday. Come out and learn the place if your close enough.
I'm in Northern Va so a bit far away.
I watched a video and the track surface looks like it changes from concrete to asphalt or some combination thereof? Is traction consistent throughout or does it depend where you are at the moment?
i stay in camden at the comfort inn right off RT20 on the way to the track 15 min away.
Quotei stay in camden at the comfort inn right off RT20 on the way to the track 15 min away.
Where do you keep your bike?
Ugh, I miss my full size van.
We camp at the track. I also live in Nortern Va. and we should have room for one more bike if you need a lift! Let me know. 2o2f2s
Dude! How are you gonna fit four bikes in that little trailer? Do you need to borrow some tie down straps and lag bolts for the roof?? :ahhh:
Solo, camping at the track is cool, I personally have only stolen two bikes, (neither made me faster), and there is a great mom and pop restaurant in town with an affordable buffet. Tips for the track, dont risk ramming the chaplain to keep from being forced into eternal damnation, oh yeah, score points with the Big Guy, and let me win. See ya there bro.
Art, are you going to CMP???

We will be leaving the R6 home. 2 in the trailer and 1 in the back of the truck.
Let me tell you a story bout a man named Jed......................
Whats up bro Endzel! Yeah man, I'll be racin and helpin as pit crew for the TC. You, Bill and Mr Bob are comin right?
The track surface is rough in general but they have repaved most of the corners so they are a good bit smoother.I'd say grip is good and consistant even going from the old to new stuff and new to old.Kinda messed with my head alittle at first but it's all good.+1 for camping. There is power and hot showers. They also have open garages for rent.Might want to bring a piece of outdoor carpet,a big tarp,or some plywood to park your bike on cause it's kinda sandy in the pits.Roads are paved but they won't let you park your bike on them. It's so the ambulances can get by easy.Hope this helps some.

That's a great offer. I have an F150 but sharing costs works for me especially when my pit crew (lovely wife) can't make it.
I'll shoot you a pm if you're serious.

Thanks, that does help!
Ok, so now I just have to wait for race day........ are we there yet?
Another question-
Twin sprints doesn't mean 2 cylinder machines, correct?
Reading the book and lookiing at the schedule am I to surmise twin sprints mean I do one, 7 lap HW Supersport race on Saturday and another on Sunday?
Twin sprints means the same races both days.Leave your bike at the track, everything is safe there. if you r worried, you can leave them by us, we will camp there.

Artis Chaplainus - I am trying to figure out how to do it right now. I had totally planned on not coming (finances!!!) but I really want to qualify for the Michelin Invitational, and I think I'll need to score points in ALL rounds in order to even have a shot. Not that I'll score any points at CMP; based on last year's performance it's a LOOONG SHOT!!!
I don't know man, I may come down just for the MWSS races.
I need a sponsor....... or to sell my blood. :banghead:
When are you coming up here??? I thought it was this week.

Not really. They will give you about $240 a month for plasma they take out of your blood.I think you have to go once a week.Think I'll keep mine! ha ha
Well that's 2 sets of tires before the summer time!!!!
Mike, you're a blood whore....
ROFL!
Anything to race Joe!!! Aren't you switching to Michelins this year???

I'll have one! I'll be running the Team Challenge with Greg so we will have to have them handy. Don't worry, we'll just follow the smoke signals...

Ok.
So, I signed up for GTO, F-40 and HW Supersport.
Looking at the CMP schedule, from what I've learned I will race:
Saturday:
GTO
F-40 race one
HW Supersport race one
Sunday:
HW Supersport race two
F-40 race two
Cost for the races: $80+$55+$55
Practice: $100
Total: $290
Do I have it right?
nope, try again.
it looks like you have a total of FIVE races.
that means: 80+55+55+55+55 = $300 total
there is no fee for CCS practice rounds on saturday and sunday. it is included in your entry fee.
if you want to practice on friday with Cornerspeed = $150 (www.cornerspeed.net)
hope that helps!

Hmmm....
I'm reading the 05Jan09 CCS flyer, it states:
"Fees: Pre-entry fees are $80.00 for the first CCS class entered and $55.00 for each additional class entered."
That reads as if the cost is by class and not by race.
Next:
"Practice pre-entry is $100.00 for those events with a ASRA/CCS practice before the event."
And, the racing application has a cost block associated with practice.
Well, in either scenario the cost is similar but the perception of how those costs are tallied is very different.
Man, In Japan, I spent a lot of time figuring out their MFJ rulebook, I thought a return to the states meant I'd at least be able to understand the rules in english! :err:
Quoteif you want to practice on friday with Cornerspeed = $150 (www.cornerspeed.net)
Oh, appreciate the offer but I'll figure out which way the track runs on Saturday morning and try and put the rest together during the GTO race
Does anyone know if they have fixed the terrbile power problems at CMP?
Justin is right. You have to pay for each race on Sat. and pay to run the
same race on Sunday. So $300 is correct.CCS only charges $100 for
practice when they host it the day before the races.Cornerspeed is hosting
it on Friday so it's $50 more.I'll be running GTO also.See ya there.

So, I'm looking at safety wire requirements and I see the standard oil drain, plug, filter ect... Didn't see anything about calipers or front and rear axle bolts.
I'm used to and will still run safety wire on the rear axle and all caliper bolts but hopefully I can stay away from the dreaded front axle, 5 bolt safety wire setup. Am I right?
anyone have a good idea of other fees associated w/ CMP? that is, camping, entry, power, etc.?
my wife is handling the budgeting this year, so i've got to tell her what to expect for the weekend...
gone are my days of spend spend spend! :)

OK, they have put a bunch of 30 amp power up in the pits so that people can run their RV's off of them. I will check to see what they are charging. Last I heard it would be no more than anywhere else in the SE, probably less. I told them to make sure it was less than it cost to run a generator for the weekend.
If you rent a garage, you can run your trailer off of it. They all have power. I run mine off of them all the time.
There is a trackday Sat/Sun the weekend before the race. If you decide to come let me know so I can make arrangements for you to leave your trailers if you want. That way you won't have to drag them back and forth.
The track is all pavement, no concrete. The patches are a darker color, but they don't cause any troubles. I ride across them all the time. Grip is good, even on the scary looking patch on the triple. You can ride right across it.
I'll be there the weekend before the race, and will have Josh there to help out the weekend of the race. We will be in garage 24.
Did they mill off the hump/bump in the kink?
That's not a hump, that's a spot of character. No really for those that don't know. The track has a couple of configurations. The short course comes in at the fast kink. If you try to cut the corner and go over that part of the pavement, it can get exiting. My bikes have never handled it very well. If you put your knee over the other pavement, and your tires right on the edge of it, you can get through there just fine.
If you have your suspension set up for long travel I guess you could go over it.
i assume that april's race is not on the short course - so that the bump is a non-issue
yes?
I think it is..
Awesome track! It has slow corners up to the most scary fast flat kink you have ever gone around. just run fairly tall gearing there even though the second gear corners make you want to run short gearing. You should run t6? I think, in 3rd gear, you will know which one after you do about 3 laps around the place. They have done great improvements from what I heard last year and I wish we could make it this year :wah: There is a hotel to the north in Kershaw (on the right) that wasn't too bad for around $50 a night, but camping if the weather is nice is not out of the question. We left our stuff at the track in the trailer, no problems, its out in the middle of nowhere and there were plenty of people camping. The little diner on the way into town on the left wasn't bad and was very reasonably priced. Have fun!
Thanks guys, all very good info.
Stickboy,
I'll go with the T4/T3 setup for starters. I won't be down the week before but will look for you the week of.
You will be running the full course. You can cut across the other pavement when you go through the kink. That's where you can find the bump. keep your wheels off the other road coming in, and you will be fine.
Solo, Josh will be there by garage 24 to help you that weekend. Have fun.

Only 2 race w/e's here, both at Daytona and 4+ yrs ago. Also can someone confirm which course they're running???

All bike events run full course except for the mini's.
Derek will you or Josh be at any of the other MA races besides CMP?
We will also cover the Barber round. I have the contract for all the SouthEast tracks. There are only 2 races at SE tracks though.
Here's the info on power in the pits
