Title: Insurance
Post by: live4moto on December 04, 2008, 02:34:48 PM
Ok so a topic none of us like, insurance. My insurance plan is changing and I now have to pay a deductible AND a percentage of Ambulance/Life Fight rides. Does anyone know how much life flight is out of Summit Point? Trying to decide whether I should get a knew provider.

I think the last person that I knew first hand that had a helicopter flight they couldn't remember, it was close to $5k.  That was about eight years ago.  That was at Blackhawk Farms.

1st Check with your insurance provider if they cover ambulance, air ambulance, ambulance return to home if traveling

2nd
Probably going to have a few track managers mad for me saying this but here goes.

Call the tracks in question that you ride at ask what the air ambulance service they use, find out from that service if they have a yearly membership program.

From there figure your insurance needs

Yes, it is called MASA...look them up.  They waive the initial signup fee if you are an AMA member.  IIRC it's about $240/yr for single, $360/yr family, but don't quote me on that.  It's a really good deal because not only does it cover such emergency transportation as life-flights out of tracks, but it also helps with repatriation expenses for things like medical transport if you get hurt far away from home and you want your treatment to take place closer to your home.  Such transport alone usually runs in to the several thousands of dollars.

I haven't had to use it, and hopefully never will, but I'm glad for the piece of mind that I get from having it, in addition to my regular health insurance and my accident coverage policy.

Check out www.masaassist.com.  I can also give you the name and # of the agent who I contact to buy my coverage.

My trip from Hastings to Lincoln this year was $14,000.  That was hospital to hospital.  I'd hate to see how much more it would have been if they had landed at the track.
