Title: Some serious horsepower!
Post by: chaplain220 on November 15, 2008, 07:32:06 PM
Finally got to watch one go up!  We sat right across the river, looked just like the Apollo 13 movie with all the spotlights shining on Endeavor as she sat on the pad.  Not quite a gixxer, but I bet it was a heck of a ride.

This was our view from across the river, pic taken by one of the ridin bros on daytonasportbikes.com.

That is so cool!! I am green with envy. Hope I get to witness a launch before I am in the home drooling and weaving baskets.

I decided to watch what I could from home in West Palm Beach. It was an awesome spectacle and one of these days I will make it to Cocoa for a much closer look. I would say that West Palm Beach is a good 100 miles from Cocoa. I have even seen a launch from Miami.

Cool to know you guys were watching as well.  I tell ya, being in that crowd of thousands, and everyone got quiet as she prepared to launch, made ya real proud to think of how many lives and generations have been invested in our freedom and the frontiers of science so that we are able to witness something like this.  God bless America!

Ok, that's it!

Next time they are doing a launch I'm going to FL... Not too many chances left before they reitre them from service. This is one thing I want to see before they are gone.

I saw a couple rockets get launched when we've been at Daytona.  And in 2002, a shuttle was launched when we were at Daytona.  It was so totally cool to see.  I'd recommend going to see it.

Sweet! I hope it is around early to mid March then!  :thumb:

Or heck I'll just make two trips to FL early next year!

It looked great as usual from Jax. Drove down for a night launch a few years ago, no place to park etc, pulled into a biker bar straight across from the marina, plenty of parking and refreshments. I shot video that was narrated by a drunken biker female, it's was a filthy language laden play by play, had to edit it before sharing.

My father used to take us down for the Apollo launches, he'd get VIP passes, the old 3 mile stands, it was a life changing experience.
The Shuttles are just as awesome.

That's it! Next time one goes up at night; I'm there. I planned on going, but got lazy at the last minute and watched it from the backyard  :banghead:
