Is there a architect on here and or a contractor from Florida that can give me a hand?
I have a house in Hollywood FL that has a carport. I would like to close it off and make it a garage ( for my bike of course). I want to build a Wall on one side and a garage door on the other. I thought I could just draw up the design and get a permit for it, but I have been told I need a architect to draw it for me. Any help or guidance in this endeavor would be appreciated.
Thanks
JC
local laws may require it to be drawn up professionally to get ther permit. I dont know how it is down there but here, while permits are required, almost no one gets one unless its new construction. I would think you could get by without it.
I'm a contractor and in my town (Decatur, Il) you dont work without a permit if required. Not only will the governing body stop work when you are caught but they will fine you. Then the inspectors take a REALLY close look at things giving no flexability with the building codes. Depending on the violation they can deny you completion of the project. For example if they require a 30 ft. set back from the street for a garage and a 20 ft set back for a carport and you without a permit turn your carport (25 ft from the street) into a garage well.... :spank:
My step dad actually drew up the plans for the house he's personally building currently, he just had to have an architect review the plans, make any modifications, then sign off on it in order to pass zoning. :thumb:
Well I have the plans drawn, all I need to do is find an architect in South Florida
