To all of you who ran Dunlop rears last RoC in the Team Challenge, were you able to do the entire event on 1 rear tire, safely?
The key is safely, because I don't want to be coming in on the cords, risking a blowout in the latter laps.
I'm just curious as to what peoples' experiences were - did you use Dunlops, and if so, only 1 rear? What kind of bike, and what was the condition of the tire when you came in at the end of the race?
Based on the advice of a friend (current reigning SC champion, so I tend to trust his opinion, especially since he rode a bigger bike than I will be riding - 1000 vs. 750), I'm planning on 1 rear, but I would like to know the opinions of anyone with experience in this event running Dunlops.
Thanks.
We only used 1 rear tire at Daytona last year and the year before, before that I didnt race. Our GTO team (GSXR1000) used 1 set of tires for the race and our GTU team (ZX6R) used 1 set of tires for the race.
Neither were down to the cords, but they were deffinately done at the end of the race.

Thanks, great info - that's pretty much what I heard from last year's champ too. Anyone else got any experience running a single Dunlop rear for TC in the Fall config?
We got 1 whole race out of the Dunlop 209 n-tec, tire held up great, kind of funny shaped when we were done. The GSXR 1000 is not easy on tires either, but we won the championship without ever changing a tire during a race all year. (we ran the KAW 600 at some tracks) We have won 4 national championships on the Dunlop tires, never doing a tire change.

Thanks - I've won Solo this year without doing a change all season either (including Spring Daytona), but I just wasn't sure about the Fall config. But all of this feedback (plus Krishna's, which is the same) indicates that one tire can get the job done. Anyone else with data, I'd welcome hearing it. Thanks.
Follow-Up Question:
Does anyone have an fuel consumption calculations (preferably for a 750) for Daytona for the Fall configuration?
Thanks.
