Pic of the SV. Painted, Clearcoated. Looking good, I think.
More to come later.
What do you all think?
(Homer Simpson voice)....Mmmmm, yellow. I like yellow. ;D
Nice. Did you have it professionally done?
Wow, that makes me feel good :D
Nope, did it all myself, which is evident when you're closer.
Like, I didnt sand down the bondo well enough when I filled in these tank dents:

But, it came out well, I think.
Paint job is spray paint, (rattle can; New Holland Yellow) and you can tell that if you look closely.
Good job Nate. :)
I need to be buying paint myself... :o
Looks good Nate, did you use a rattle can or a sprayer? I painted mine with a rattle can and got lazy... There are a few runs and I never clear coated it. I figure after the season, I'll sand it all down and do it right. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Rattle can only, and then rattle can clear coat.
First attempt at that ever, so I had a few screw-ups. Don't mess with runs and such until after they dry. That's my advice. Take your time with prep. I didnt have the time to take for the prep, and that shows now.
I'm curious as I'll be doing this soon.
When you say 'prep' what exactly do you mean?
I'm getting new Sharkskinz, soon, but I think they come 'ready to paint'?
inspects nate and jen's handiwork 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
not too bad if i do say so myself :D
it looks great ;D ;D
::) ::)i still say it looks like a lemon ;) ;) hehehehehee

Thanx jen. And thanx again for the help with the painting, brakes, and other things you helped out with.
I may have a thread of suggestions for nicknames for the SV. I don't like lemon That much. :P
Painting:
You need to scuff up the surface of the skins. I used 400 grit and wet sanded.
Prime the tank, and strip the old paint IF you have the time.
Ideally, you should also sand lightly between coats. I had some texture probs. I used a glossy paint, and some of it was glossy, some of it got orange-peely.
I clear-coated it, and may buff it, and for sure will wax it all yet.
Nice job, Nate!
i'd reccomend to go easy on the wax i waxed mine last year and couldn't hold on to the tnak when riding to slippery if luckily windex removes wax :o :o
Nice job Nate - looks just like mine. How the heck are they going to tell us apart?? ;)
Damn that bike is ugly Nate ;D Just kiddin' looks good man. :D I just painted mine this off-season as well. This is what mine looks like :P

Yeah I know - I'll set em, you spike em...LOL.
I'm actually waiting for my primer to dry right this minute. Then I'm attempting my first paint job on my R6. Hope it looks as good as yours.
I also didn't overdo the sanding on my tank filler. I'm not too worried, though. :)
This is just too much work for a race bike :P
Nice paint jobs, guys. I fall down so much I wonder if they make paint tear-offs so you can peel them off and have a new paintjob underneath??? ::)
After the work I did on this job, I'm making sure there are photo opportunities taken before I take big chances ;D
