Title: There Be Dragons this summer!!!
Post by: chaplain220 on August 02, 2008, 01:05:14 PM
Temp was good, tires sticky, coming to one of my favorite curves, which bein in rural buttscratch on Maryland's eastern shore, are few and far between.  Right hander, made blind with 7-8 foot tall corn stalks lining both sides of the road, deer bedded down, shouldn't be any problems.  Shnikees!!!  There it was, hundreds of feet long, neck rising a full ten feet from the tops of the stalks, and mouth spewing its foul discharge all over the road, just past the apex.  Reminded me of the giant bike eating ants at Barber...anyhow, Soaked, but upright and alive, I learned another lesson in the "close calls on the street" category.    But I knew then, it was my duty to discover more about these elusive behemoths and bring warning to others.

So I set out the next morning, warily following the twisting lanes and backroads through the crop laden fields...when, there, right next to the road, I came upon one of em...sleeping.  (Good thing I didn't cut my Yosh pipe yet or I'd of wakened it).   Fully 400 feet long, this one was a genuine monster with its reticulated body covered in spikes hovering above the fields supported by powerful legs.  I don't think anyone has gotten this close and lived to get such detailed pics.

Even silent it was intimidating, and took me a couple minutes to get up the courage to leave the cover of my bike.  I tried to move slowly so the light wouldn't reflect off my mirrored visor and awaken the beast.  (Note in the pic the proper tactical body position for stealth crawling amidst low shrubbery, and the simulated military hand signals directing your attention to the creature.)

All my efforts to remain silent ultimately failed, and with the sound of rushing waters a deep rumbling began to pass through the length of the beast.  I bolted, A-stars not the best running shoes, and as I frantically turned the key on a nervous gixxer, splam!!  We were hit again.

Hope everyones summer is goin okay, just trying to bring a little humor when fuel prices, finances, jobs, schedules and kids being home, has probably shortened some of your fuses.  Then there's the real dragons in life, the cancer, relationship stress, and injuries.  So call one of your buddies and let em know you been thinkin about em.  Been crazy here getting ready to move, hope to see yas soon.

:lmao:  Those damn dragons.  We need someone with enough courage to stand up to these giants.  Their breeding is out of control, I'm starting to see them everywhere. lol
