I'm trying to put together a list of Track Records across the country. Who, where, when, on what bike etc.
Does anybody have documented EXACT records about this? I know at Roebling Road, for instance, someone scribbled - on the wall in the scoring room, no less ::) - the date and time/speed that Steve Grigg broke the track record on a motorcycle ~during a race~ (practice doesn't count).
T'would be interesting ... plus there ought to be an award for breaking a track speed record.
Who's the fastest at your favorite track?
I can send you the list for the 2001 season for all the classes in the south central. email me your address and I will drop a copy in the mail to you or fax it to you. blockworks@yahoo.com (//blockworks@yahoo.com)
A few issues of Roadracing World ago, they had a long list. Email RRW and ask them what issue it was. There is also a website somwhere that was pretty comprehensive but I can't seem to find it. If I can I will post for you.
Thanks, Zanyeights! I found it fairly easy.
Everybody take a look at this Roadracing World Article dated April 2001 for the year 2000:
http://venus.13x.com/roadracingworld/issues/apr01/records.htm
Are all of these still correct?
Looks like records need to be established (and or found) for:
BLACKHAWK - new course
LAS VEGAS
One CCS track I don't see on this list is:
STREETS OF WILLOW SPRINGS (I think that's different than just Willow Springs)
And, MID-AMERICA MOTORPLEX is a brand new track, so new records will be established there this year.
And so is NORTH FLORIDA.
Any others?
You might want to check that moroso record I thought it was Rich Oliver doing a 1:15 something on a Team Roberts YZR 500 back around 1990 or 91.
Please don't hold me to that I have drank lots beer since then. ;D ;D

New course at BLACKHAWK!?!?!?! That track hasnt been 'redone' in a loooooong time. :D Other than a FEW patches, its teh same bumpy track I started racing bikes on in 1999. ;D
Huge Industries rider Vincent Haskovik still holds the Laguna record, I think. Mark Ladesma holds the Firebird East record. I don't have times or dates, sorry, just some useless info.

I have heard (unoffically) that Mark Ledesma has run a 1:00.5 at Firebird East. I personally saw him running some 1:01 flats last time out. What is needed to get official times?
AMA uses electronic timing. Mark might be out at the trackday this Sun. Can't wait! It'll be 80 degrees all day! I think Haugo could take the record this year. He's so fast he uses me as a braking marker. Then again, so does Ladesma, Haskovik, and pretty much everyone else out there. LOL.
Yeah, I had to save my money for vegas races next weekend but plan to go out and watch some on Sunday. I'll probably see you there, what's your bike look like? Of course we may have met already, I bought Mark's (Huge Industries) old ZX6.
Oliver went a 1:19.00 at Moroso.
I'll be on a blue R1 street bike. (I know that really doesn't narrow it down.) I'll be there with Mark. I think I already met you. I was racing on that zx-6 last year when you were talking about buying it. I may also be riding a 900RR and Jack's SV. He wants me to do some team challenges with him sometime this year and that's the bike we'll use. I'm leaving for the track right now! see you there!
(I love leaving for a day at the track. AHHHHH.)

The track records in my compilation in Roadracing World April 2001 were correct as of the end of the 2000 race season.
An official track record needs to be recognized by an official from a racing organization. In other words, just because you heard that a friend of your friend timed Joe Racer with the second hand on his Timex wrist watch beating Anthony Gobert's Laguna Seca lap record, this is not an official lap record.
Another example, Larry Denning just called to say he broke the lap record of Talladega in the CCW direction last weekend. A call to WERA confirmed the lap time from their AMB electronic scoring system.
When contacted for that 2001 article, CCS HQ, the CCS regional race director and Blackhawk itself had no records of any confirmed lap record.

Just another good reason for CCS to have electronic scoring! ;)
Thanks for letting us know about Larry Denning. Did you get the "official" time etc.?
QuoteOliver went a 1:19.00 at Moroso.
thanks Brett and how is Ill. treating ya?
David,
I just bought a Mille R, but don't be offended if I don't let you borrow it for a lap or 2.
Just razzing you man, took some real courage to write that mea culpa article. IMH and worthless opinion, I look forward to your perseptives knowing when the finger gets pointed in your articles, it gets pointed the right direction, unlike some other writers who shall remain nameless.
The Tularis today got a 1:13.8 at Blackhawk Farms. I dont know if thats a record or not, but its DAMN FAST!! BTW that was what the tower announced according to the transponder they put on his bike for the $1500 unlimited GP race. :o
Last Year Scott Dietrich set the lap record at BH of 1:11 and change. Doesn't CCS have this info somewhere?
CCS only recognizes the three stop watch method as unofficial track records since not every bike was timed at the event. The justification for that showed last weekend when the Tularis was the fastest on time, but without the electronic system, evryone else was watching Denning in the lead and timing him. Regardless, our unoffical listing has Scott at 1:12.8 and the Tularis with Steve Johnson aboard at 1:13.82. (Steve's time was the fastest we clocked this weekend, not bad considering the talent that was there.)
Once we go to electronic scoring, we will recognize official track records during the races.
Thanks for everyones support and co-operation, 709 sprint entries and 31 Team Challenge entries made that one of Blackhawks biggest events ever.
See you in two weeks.
I think I set the track record for Summit on 5/11 in the morning race. I did a 1.39 on my 2nd lap and believe I now hold the record for the slowest track record. ;D
Ha,.. maybe for now sportbikepete, but wait till I get up there the July 13th weekend... I'll bet ya I'll take the record from ya.
The Summit Point track record was broken 6 times today (May 25th) during the NRRS/CCS weekend!! If the rumor I heard is true, Larry Pegram has it now in the 1.14s!!! :o :P
Yes, the Summit record was broken a couple of times, and finally ended up with Pegram at a 1:14.617.
I keep a list of all the old Summit Point track records on the MARRC website on the Summit Point page at http://www.marrc.org/html_docs/summit.html
It's amazing that 10 years ago no one had gone below a 1:20 at Summit. Now its common for novices to do it on a 600!
