Title: New Racer at Road America July 4th
Post by: spymoto on June 25, 2008, 05:47:31 AM
Hi!

I'll be doing my first CCS race and it will be at Road America on July 4th. I'll be signing up for the GTU class. I was wondering if anyone else is going to be there that could possibly show me the ropes to relieve some of the mental stress :ahhh:

I have done some trackdays at RA in the past, but the whole "Race" experience seems like it may be a bit overwhelming if I do it solo. Any help or pointers would be great!

Also, Is there a way to get power for my tire warmers if I don't have a generator by then?

And can I run slicks in the GTU race???

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, you can run slicks in the GTU race.

Shoot, if you need help at the track, just ask anyone around. We're all racers and we help each other out.

Mike,  Team MSB  will be there Wed. night for the Thursday T&T.  I can't say where we'll be pitted but come find us and pit close and we'll be more than happy to lend a hand.  Want to hold the fire extinguisher during the team challenge on Friday?

Sure I could do that for ya,  But I'm sure you guys wont need it, just change belly pans during fueling pits =)  If I come on Thursday to just register for my licence and for the race, will I have to pay a gate fee to be there for 10 minutes???

This may sound dumb, but I'm not understanding the registation they have set up:

Thursday, July 3:
     7:00am - 4:30pm - Gate Passes Only
     4:30pm - 5:00pm - Registration for T.O.P. Members Only
     5:00pm - 8:00pm - Registration & Tech - all participants

Am i getting this right? Before 4:30 I'd have to pay a gate fee, don't know what TOP Members are, and after 5 no gate fee to register for Friday?

Thanks!

Registration is right outside the gate - no need for a pass to take care of that.

Thursday  7-4:30pm no race registration. (edited)

Transition on Thursday afternoon from Road America Track Day to CCS race weekend can be a little challenging.

Thursday 4:30 -5pm  T.O.P. registration only.     T.O.P.  = Team Owners Program.  They pay big bucks for the ASRA series / Team Challenge.

Thursday 5-8pm  open registration/tech for all racers.  You can get into the track until 8pm by paying for a CCS gate pass.

Does that help?

Yes it does. Thanks! To be sure though... I can sign up to get my race licence (and get my #) between 7 - 4:30 outside of the gate and come back after 5 to register for the races I want to run outside the gate too? This is all at the main gate I take it.

Also, for crew members do they need to be listed somewhere and do they need some special credentials? and can they show up at anytime during the weekend or do they need to be with the rider when they enter?

Thanks again!

Starting Wed evening you will be getting the gate passes for the weekend.

Then Thursday until CCS/ASRA registration opens you will be able to purchase the weekend pass, required for entrance from Wed evening thru Sun evening.

You must have purchased a weekend racer/crew gate pass to register for races.

Racer/Crew credentials allow more access and required for pitlane and track access as well as camping.

So are you saying Eric that we can get in any time on Thursday with the CCS pass?

Ok, so I won't be able to register for my licence until after 5pm, and after I do that I have to get the weekend pass and then sign up for my races???

Thanks

Holy Crap this is giving me a headache! I don't remember all this crap from last year, and I believe that should have been worse due to Moto-ST being there as well!
So, I can get in ANYTIME on Thursday as long as I purchase a Racer/Crew credential?
Then I need to return at 5:00pm to register with CCS for racing? Does that sound right?
I don't remember the Racer/Crew credential thing last year.

If you show up after 8:00pm you will be able to stay at the track but will not be able to get into the pit or camping area until you go through registration. They have an area outside of the gate to spend the night.

Buy a licence then signup for races and buy your weekend pass.
