Title: Blackhawk Team Challenge
Post by: Johnny_P on June 23, 2008, 04:57:25 PM
Can anybody clue me in as to how much fuel I might use on a CBR600RR during a TC at Blackhawk?  I ran the solo at Road A and went like 98% of the way on one tank so I am thinking I might be able to make it at BHF, just looking for people that may have done it on  a similar bike.  Let me know, thanks.

You will use much less fuel at blackhawk than road america ( if you havent been there, there are only 2 wide open sections/straighaways and they last for a cumulative 15 seconds or so.

Are you saying you ran almost the entire 2 hours on 1 tank of fuel at road america? That is VERY suprising if you have a stock tank. Id be intrested to know how you got that kind of fuel milage. We can only run 1 30 - 1 45 with a 7 gallon tank on our sv with stock carbs.

Thanks for the reply,

I have been to BHF many times, I just never ran the Challenge there.  I have no idea how I got that mileage at Road A, all I know is I went into the race expecting to have to pit for physical reasons and ended up staying out until the fuel light came on.  When I went into the pits and got fuel I went back out and the next time past the start / finish I got the white flag.  This surprised me very much, but that's my story.  I am pretty hard on fuel mileage as well, Jeff Kufalk can attest to that as we have done a challenge together and he has seen how much fuel I use.  So I am not sure how I did it, but I am assuming that the race was well short of 2 hrs since it was also determined by distance and you can cover a lot of ground quick at Road A.  I am just trying to plan for BH as I think I can physicaly do it, not sure about the fuel though.

Last year I did five 20 min sessions (four full sessions and one with about a 5 min red flag) at BHF during a pratice day on a full tank and still had one bar above blinking left.  But I was generally taking it a bit easy and running a pratice pace of 1:20 - 1:21's which is about 3-4 seconds off my typical race pace.

I thought you weren't allowed a "race pace" this year.... :kicknuts:

Now thats funny!

You know Jason, I think it is going to be close - what is the lowest you have run your 600RR on fuel?  I did one full lap at RA with the light blinking and made it, but was refueling during the race so I did not take a measurment to see what I had left.  I guess I will just figure it out during the race, I am doing it for fun anyway.  However, I say that now but being competitive like most of us here I will regret it if I could have done it and ended losing places due to a stop (would have podiumed last year!)  Regardless thanks for the feedback.

I'd guess you just might be able to do it but it'll be real, real close.  The lowest I've run it is usually at BHF, for sprints I'll usually put enough gas in so it just lights up the third bar, It usually starts flashing at me on the cool down lap somewhere between 4 and 7.   I'd guess I could probably do 3 - 4 laps, maybe 5 easy laps on it once it starts flashing.  But I've never really measured, just eye-balled it.
