Post by: benprobst on June 20, 2008, 08:25:24 AM
pit bikes at RA. Id like to bring a pitbike or 3 since we are going to be there all week and the place is so damn big. Ill be bringing our ratty old elite scooter, but thought I might bring along my KTM and maybe a streetbike or another scooter. Are they charging for un-plated bikes? how much? anyone know the deal?

There is a form you can get off their website to fill out for the unlicensed bikes.

Well they could just say no to any unlicensed motorized vehicle to be rode around. But I would put more blame on the insurance companies and retards who fuck around on them to blame before the tracks.

Well, actually, the insurance companies started to have to crack down on costs to the track, which ultimately is paid by the racers & track day participants, because of a number of transportable incidents involving pit vehicles.  Golf cars included.

The burden of that is carried by those that bring uninsured/unlicensed pit vehicles.  Honestly, it sucks, but it's fair.

And don't bitch like this is something exclusive to Road America...  Many tracks are doing this already and many more will follow...

...and just to throw out a good word about the RA staff and security......they were very nice about letting us know we had to register the bikes
and pay $25 each. heck they even let us ride the bike out to get it done  :thumb:

Am I reading this registration form correctly?  I have to provide proof of one million dollars insurance coverage applicable to the use of my moped?

That's just the registration form for you Becca.   Nobody else has to prove liability insurance.    :spank:

You don't need glasses, it says one million dollars. Apparently, they are worried you're going to crash into the fueling rigs causing a major explosion or something.

They have ways of dealing with the evil, miscreant pit bike riders. Just bring a street bike and it's all good.

I sold my non street legal scooter for just this reason. You can't use it anywhere...............

i was wanting to buy one of those fuel misers to go to work on anyway plus in Fla if you don't owe on it you don't need insurance on it.

Here in good 'ol Missouri if it's single speed, under 50cc and only goes 35mph you don't have to liscense it, insure it or wear a helmet.
Pretty sure if I callled my insurance agent and asked to purchase a million $$ plan for my $500 moped he'd laugh and hang up.

How close do they check that rule?

I copied my insurance policy for RA last year.  The registration staff did not want to see the proof of insurance nor did anyone from the security staff ask to see it.

I will bet that they will not care about the insurance until something bad happens.

So as long as nothing catastrophic happens involving a scooter in the next week I'm good to just pay my $25 and register.  Then again, I haven't had the best of luck this season.  Maybe I should get the insurance.

Since you're going to be there, I'm definitely getting the insurance! :)
