I want to send a message to smiley, this is Mike #428 AM that crashed into you in turn six @BHF sunday. I am sincerely sorry for what happened sunday. It kills me that I affected you and your family. I was battling with a different rider and my intentions were to just out-brake him. It sux majorly that an innocent person got involved. I never wanted to take your position just hold my own. I know that apologies probably dont matter to you, but I am hoping that next time we see each other there wont be any ill-will. I learned alot from that crash, and given the same situation I won't make the same decision. I hope that you have speedy recovery, and are back in race form soon. I sincerely wish you, and your family all the best. and again I am very sorry..........
holy crap.. how did i totally miss this?? what happened?!?!?! is he ok?!?!?
no he is not ok he broke his collarbone, and that makes me feel even worse I was hoping that his shoulder was just banged up.
Hope Smiley is ok... get well man! Ive been taken out b4 and yeah it sucks, but it's part of racing.

I wish you would have learned from your previous crashes over the weekend maybe this is what it takes. I hope that's the case. I don't hope you get hit by a bus or anything but don't expect a hug and a kiss next time we meet.
That being said if you want some assisistance with your riding to become safer better racer I know a great org that can help.
Smiley
No I wouldn't expect a hug and a kiss, but knowing we would be racing each other sometime soon as racers and not enemies is my motive. Last weekend was my first race experience, Dustin told me to race my own race. I ignored advice and tried to win, and make up for bad starts and running off in a lap or two. When I look at times I see more consistency than I, and being consistent is more important than putting in the fastest lap. I would like to talk to you about this org you mentioned. As I have only been on an actual track twice, I need to get more comfortable with making passes, and being passed. I honestly look forward to racing you again. I imagine what that last two turns would've been like if I hadn't made that decision. You, #139, and I might have had the finish the experts had. Thank you for replying, hope that I hear from you soon.
I'm really surprised Dustin didn't suggest that you run for a couple of years with this organization:
http://www.nesba.com
Burt,
We don't like to advertise that link too much....really....there aren't that many national championships to go around.
We don't want to slice the pie too thin. :)
I understand completely.
I'm sorry, I must have been out of town when that memo came out.
Last thing I want to do is to diminish the legend Dustin created.

did i read that correctly monica_ranis, it was your 2nd time on track ever????? and your racing?....
Hey Smiley, rough couple weeks man. Hope your injury heals fast. Bumped your karma up a little.
You can get your race license turning 1.40's at BHF as long as you don't crash. That doesn't mean evryone that does rides like a freshman trying to pull off his first pair of pantys. This can be some dangerous shit.I am very glad I spent 4 years doing track days,as have alot of racers, before racing.NESBA taught me alot, perhaps consider a few dates with them, have a CR evaluate you.Obviously, something's going on that needs correction.Riding over our heads is no fun for us either, let alone someone we just took out of first place on the final lap.You have every right to pay your money and race,ya might want to have a think on it and see if it's real prudent,at least at thid point of your development.Speaking ONLY for myself,I did not want to race until I felt expierienced enough to not only run O.K.,but not to be a danger to the riders around me,first and foremostI am not the fastset rider out there by any stretch, but there is a good feeling when you are trusted to run with in tight quarters.Frankly,it sounds like in-expierience is the culprit here, check the Track Day schedules and get some good coaching, you'll feel better and so will we.

Back before there were track days thats what you did, school on Sat. race on Sun. whats the big deal. Shit happens !
Yeah, but that was so long ago,I think the Dead Sea was just gettin' sick!! Doh!! Love ya Eddie
you tell him jigs....seven tenths ought to do it!
so what's the excuse the "experience racers" use when they fuck up? At least he apologized. No one wants to be the cause or the recipient of a crash, but like they say, that's racing. I've seen plenty of racers pull boneheaded moves, only to blame others, or just ignore it altogether.
Point taken, and props for maning up for sure, but unless I was mis-informed,this was like the 3rd off of the day. Also,by no means does "everyone "need 2-4 years of track day expierience to race. That was my path cuz' I'm old.
There are plenty of experienced riders who have taken others out....props for apologizing.

Mike,
Do yourself and family a favor and join Nesba and do a couple of track days.
You won't regret it.
You'll be safer faster and consistant.
It won't happen over night but that's what the instruction is there for to give you a place to start.
You maned up and apologized take the next step get some instruction/direction.
It will help you make better descisions on the track.
After I boned up my first race someone told me you've got to finish to win that should be first day stuff
So good luck, next time we meet I hope you've had some track time.
Smiley
NESBA ain't the only game in town either...plenty of people prefer other organizations.
The crash with smiley was the second the first was in the first race by myself about 20-25 seconds in front of second and I was still digging because I thought I heard brakes behind me. Lost the rear on exit and as I was sliding through 6 I looked back towards 5 and nobody was there. My wife plans on running a pit board for me. Maybe I can avoid that situation by being prepared a little more. I also am going to great lakes dragaway to work on starts, that will take some weight off having to put in faster laps at first. Then BHF has a track day, I will be in attendance there too.
This thread was started to portray my remorse to Smiley, thats it. I am not looking for any fanfare or smites. I took him out, plain and simple. Its not that I dont know how to pass, ask anybody who I passed and they will tell you, not even close to stuffing them in any way-even in the races. On the street people will say "you should go do track-days". At track days they say" this isnt a race, if you want to race go to ccs or wera". Nesba tells me to slow down its not a race. S.T.T. tells me to slow down its not a race. I am not saying that I dont plan on getting to track days, any seat time is good time spent. What I am saying is that everyone has to agree that track-days cant teach you everything. Same turn, same situation I dont think 10 track days would have taught me the consequences of a bad pass. This has, knowing he cant pick up his kid because of me, kills me. I have two small kids of my own, and that keeps me up at night. Smiley has acknowledged that he has heard my message and that is all I wanted to hear. Smiley the next time we meet, hopefully soon, you can have the peace of mind that I will have more on track experience nesba more likely. Get well soon Smiley I pray for your health. I know alot of you are going to hop on here and say that I shouldn't be on track, I will have to respectfully decline your request.
I am here to race.
Does anyone else see this another good argument against AM UNL GP payouts?
My biggest concern is that Smiley won't be able to run into town every 2-3 hours and pick up more beer for us.
Get well fast, brother :thumb:

Wow... Are you looking to start a fight?
This accident was not in Unl GP, nor did they guy that caused the crash fill out contingency.
While I am not defending AM payouts.
But this has nothing to do with the subject.
One guy made a mistake...
He came here to publicly voice an apology.
Leave it at that... its none of the rest of our concerns.

No, it was not GP, but the point is the discussion about risk and how much to take at what time, and about learning gradually while trying to mitigate risk to one's self and other riders. How much more risk would the rider have taken had there been money on the line? He was clearly concerned about position in an AM race to the point of taking such risks beyond his skill level, so how much more would he have taken for not just position but payout too?
And what does this have to do with the price of tea in China?
"clearly"
You assume, he knew the risk he was taking. (saying that he took a risk, and not made a mistake)
Furthermore, you assume he was willing to risk more for money. Even though there is not one piece of evidence that says he would do anything for money.
Clearly, you want to make that point yet again... that AMs shouldn't have money races.
Thats fine... write a letter to CCS.
And just for the record...
I was hit by other riders more times on my first EX weekend, then I was the whole time I was an AM.
Mistakes happen at all levels, don't come off like your perfect.

This is racing. Contact happens. We dont have "buffer zones" like track days do. We are pushing the bikes harder than trackdays generally do. I've been hit from behind from riders trying to pass on the inside when I was already committed to the corner. Both times it was a mistake on their part but I didnt go get bent out of shape over it. Its part of racing.
As someone else said,
This is between Mark and Smiley
Mark manned up and Smiley, despite being pissed, accepted it
End of story.
But to the guys who want to bag on Mark...
Last time I checked we aren't members of the Championship Quilting Series.
You want something safer?
I hear bingo tourneys are loads o' fun.
I got taken out last weekend too.
The guy apologized - I was pissed, but accepted it
My incident was a racing incident
This one sounds like a racing incident too
They happen at the club level
They happen at the pro level
They happen
Thats racing
Deal with it
I'm all in for the bingo.
Anybody see my $30.00? It's been a year atleast since Ioaned it out!
Ron, you are a such a good guy. You will get your 30 dollars back, I promise. Just be gentle on the interest. Send me a P.M. I wanted to talk to you about the road america weekend, sauce said you were looking to get your trailer up there. If you got room for my bike I'll haul it for ya. As my trailer has gotten too small. That is of course if its okay for my bike to be next to the "CHAMPS" bike.

:wtf: does quilting have to do with Bingo?
Hey Smiley, rough couple weeks man. Hope your injury heals fast. Bumped your karma up a little.
Quilting and bingo go together like flea markets and slot machines.
Neither have much at all to do with the other except serve as examples of grandmotherly (ie: safe) pursuits
Enjoy they!
Geez,I like fea markets too!!Hmmmm

Otherwise you wouldn't ask such a stooopid question.
Hope things are going well for you. (<---- please note that sarcastic tone doesn't apply to this sentence.)

Better rethink this statement.
You might get stabbed in quilting or yelling Bingo by someones Grandmother.
Then there is the tendonitis from slot machines.

Have you ever been to a bingo tournament?? Those women are SCARY! :ahhh: Bingo is a blood sport for those woman and their whiskey sours! Grandma whould shank you with a letter opener if she thought you were about to call bingo!
Thats what I get for running with the stereotype.
I stand corrected
Bridge and power-walking then?
I don't think you're out of the woods yet Steve................
Have you ever seen the carnage that results from trying to cut in front of an 82 year-old Grandmother using a walker during a Mall Walkers session?

Things are going VERY well. Just called my motor guy last week to start getting the R6 back together! My hope is to do a shake down or 2 and make one of the last final rounds this year! :thumb:
