I'm prepping for another Krylon Paint job and I want to fill in a few small cracks.... so what's the best/easiest way to fill these in so that I can make the surface semi smooth? Anything I can get at Pep Boys or the like would be best 'cuz I'm getting impatient having to wait soooo long for a frigin race weekend. I just need things to do.
Depending on how small the cracks are I have had pretty good luck with hi-fill primer in the spray can. I also think they make a flexible putty that is made for car bumpers and whatnot that works pretty well for scratches too.
I have some yard that you could come and help with. :biggrin: I just use a thin layer of Bondo to smooth things out.
for small cracks and to fill pin holes try spot putty. its made by the bondo people and you can get it at the autoparts store. the good thing about it is that its super fine. one application, let it cure, a little sanding and you re good to paint.
I found Quick Steel Plastic Repair at Pepboys for $5. "Mixes like putty...Bonds like epoxy... Hardens like steel." Works on Fiberglass. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the suggestions.

How 'bout I show up early one Wednesday in late april and bring a rake and some seed. Just quit bustin my balls about it. BTW, I only made half those tracks... I'm not working alone. I still laugh out loud when I picture you kicking mud all over your house... and me at 5am. :lmao:
2 part epoxy works well for small cracks for me.
The steel stuff is actually like steel. I got tired of sanding so I just painted around it. It was easy to use and set quickly but my newbie dumb a$$ just gobbed it on thinking I'd just sand it to shape later. Lesson learned. Next time I'll just fill it with epoxy.
This is absolutely the best product I have found to repair bodywork (or any plastic, fiberglass or who knows what else). It's easy to work with, fast and the repair is as strong as when it was new if done right (and it's so easy it's pretty hard to screw up). Sandable, drillable, tap-able, paintable, unbelievable!
This is a great product to have trackside as well. I've put back together bodywork at the track that would not have been runable after the crash in 30 minutes.
A heat gun speeds the curing time.

This stuff is amazing! I've even seen it repair engine case covers!
